El torneo de ajedrez de los XIII Juegos Nacionales Pre Juveniles 2026 llegó a su fin después de varios días de competencia, una experiencia que reunió en Cuenca, Azuay a jóvenes ajedrecistas de distintas provincias del país 🇪🇨

Quiero felicitar a cada uno de los participantes por su disciplina, entrega y compromiso. Para muchos de ellos estos días fueron una oportunidad para enfrentar nuevos retos, ganar experiencia y descubrir todo lo que pueden alcanzar dentro y fuera del tablero.

También quiero agradecer a quienes hicieron posible este encuentro: el Ministerio de Educación, Deporte y Cultura, el Viceministerio de Deporte Ecuador, la Federación Ecuatoriana de Ajedrez, y las instituciones que brindaron sus espacios para el desarrollo de la competencia. Su apoyo permite que nuestros jóvenes cuenten con más espacios para prepararse, competir y demostrar su talento.

Ha sido una alegría acompañar este gran evento y comprobar, una vez más, que cuando trabajamos juntos podemos generar oportunidades para las nuevas generaciones. Seguiremos impulsando el ajedrez para que tenga más espacios para crecer en Ecuador y en toda América♟️

The chess tournament at the 2026 XIII National Pre Youth Games has come to an end after several days of competition, bringing together young chess players from different provinces across the country in Cuenca, Azuay 🇪🇨

I want to congratulate every participant for their discipline, dedication, and commitment. For many of them, these days were an opportunity to take on new challenges, gain valuable experience, and discover just how much they can achieve both on and off the board.

I also want to thank everyone who made this event possible: the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture of Ecuador, the Ecuadorian Vice Ministry of Sports, the Ecuadorian Chess Federation, and the institutions that provided their facilities for the competition. Their support gives our young players more opportunities to prepare, compete, and showcase their talent.

It has been a pleasure to be part of this great event and to see once again that when we work together, we can create opportunities for the next generation. We will continue to promote chess and create more opportunities for it to grow in Ecuador and throughout the Américas♟️

El ajedrez y la educación avanzan de la mano.

Los IV Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Universitarios e Institutos de Educación Superior 2026 demostraron que el deporte ocupa un lugar importante en la vida universitaria.

Tuve la alegría de acompañar este evento como directora del torneo de ajedrez y de compartir con más de 60 estudiantes universitarios comprometidos con su formación y con este deporte. Expreso mi agradecimiento a los organizadores: Ministerio de Educación, Deporte y Cultura, Viceministerio de Deporte Ecuador, Fedeguayas, Universidad de Guayaquil, a la Federación Ecuatoriana de Ajedrez y a todas las instituciones que hicieron posible esta gran celebración del deporte universitario. Mi reconocimiento también a los árbitros, jueces y, sobre todo, a cada estudiante que aceptó este desafío. En cada partida se reflejó el esfuerzo, la disciplina y la pasión con la que viven el ajedrez.

Estoy convencida de que debemos seguir impulsando estos espacios, donde el deporte y la educación se fortalezcan mutuamente. Cuando abrimos oportunidades para nuestros jóvenes, también fortalecemos el ajedrez. Seguiremos trabajando para que cada vez más estudiantes encuentren en este deporte una oportunidad para aprender, competir y construir su futuro.

Chess and education move forward hand in hand.

The 2026 IV National University and Higher Education Institute Sports Games showed once again that sports play an important role in university life.

I was honored to be part of this event as the chess tournament director and to share the experience with more than 60 university students who are committed to their education and passionate about chess.

My sincere thanks to the organizers, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture of Ecuador, the Ecuadorian Vice Ministry of Sports, FedeGuayas, the University of Guayaquil, the Ecuadorian Chess Federation and to all the institutions that made this great celebration of university sports possible.

My recognition also goes to the arbiters, judges, and, above all, to every student who took on this challenge. Every game reflected the effort, discipline, and passion they bring to chess.

I firmly believe that we must continue creating and supporting spaces where sports and education can strengthen one another. When we create opportunities for our young people, we also strengthen chess.

We will continue working to ensure that more and more students can find in chess an opportunity to learn, compete, and build their future.

Detrás de cada logro hay muchas horas de esfuerzo, disciplina y, sobre todo, personas que creen en el talento.

Hoy quiero felicitar a Rafaela Molina por un momento muy especial en su camino. Sus resultados y dedicación en el ajedrez la llevaron a tener el honor de portar la bandera del Ecuador durante las Olimpiadas del Colegio Americano de Guayaquil.

Este reconocimiento también refleja todo lo que ha conseguido a través del ajedrez. Su trabajo constante no solo se ve en sus resultados, sino también en las nuevas oportunidades que ha encontrado dentro y fuera del tablero♟️

Para quienes hemos tenido la oportunidad de acompañar su formación, es una gran alegría verla avanzar y asumir nuevos retos. Today, I want to congratulate Rafaela Molina on a very special moment in her journey. Her dedication and achievements in chess earned her the honor of carrying the Ecuadorian flag during the American School Olympics.

Cuenca se convierte en el escenario del ajedrez y del talento joven de nuestro país con los XIII Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Prejuveniles 2026, organizados por el Ministerio de Educación, Deporte y Cultura, el Viceministerio de Deporte Ecuador y la Federación Ecuatoriana de Ajedrez, en el Coliseo del Colegio Técnico Salesiano y el Coliseo de la Universidad Católica ♟️

Hoy se disputaron las primeras rondas del torneo de ajedrez del evento que reúne a jóvenes ajedrecistas de distintas provincias, quienes tienen la oportunidad de sumar experiencia, poner a prueba sus capacidades y seguir elevando su nivel en el deporte ciencia.

Me llena de alegría ver a nuestros niños y jóvenes disfrutando de estos espacios, donde pueden desarrollar su talento, compartir con otros deportistas y seguir fortaleciendo el ajedrez en Ecuador 🇪🇨

Las nuevas generaciones necesitan más competencias, acompañamiento y oportunidades para crecer, alcanzar sus metas y hacer realidad los sueños de quienes algún día representarán al país en grandes escenarios internacionales.

Cuenca has become the stage for chess and the incredible young talent of our country during the 2026 XIII National Pre Youth Sports Games, organized by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture of Ecuador, the Ecuadorian Vice Ministry of Sports, and the Ecuadorian Chess Federation. The competition is being held at the Salesian Technical High School Coliseum and the Catholic University Coliseum♟️

Today marked the first rounds of the chess tournament bringing together young chess players from different provinces across Ecuador. It’s an opportunity for them to gain valuable experience, test their skills, and continue taking their game to the next level.

It fills me with joy to see our children and young people enjoying these opportunities developing their talent, connecting with fellow athletes, and helping strengthen the sport of chess throughout Ecuador 🇪🇨

The next generation needs more competitions, support, and opportunities to grow, pursue their goals, and turn their dreams into reality, especially for those who will one day represent our country on the biggest international stages.

Premiación y clausura de los IV Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Universitarios e Institutos de Educación Superior 2026, evento del cual me siento honrada de haber sido directora del Torneo de Ajedrez, presenciando el talento de jóvenes de distintas provincias de nuestro amado Ecuador.

Un especial agradecimiento a quienes hicieron esto posible, tales como Ministerio de Educación, Deporte y Cultura, Viceministerio del Deporte, FedeGuayas, Universidad de Guayaquil, representantes de la Federación Ecuatoriana de Ajedrez, SENESCYT, Federación Deportiva Nacional del Ecuador (FEDENADOR), Federación Ecuatoriana del Deporte Universitario y Politécnico (FEDUP) y cada institución que colaboró en el esfuerzo de reunir todo este talento deportivo, así como a los árbitros y jueces que dejaron en alto el nivel de la competencia.

Awards ceremony and closing celebration of the 4th National University and Higher Education Sports Games 2026, an event where I had the privilege of serving as Tournament Director for the Chess Competition. It was truly inspiring to witness the talent and dedication of young athletes representing provinces from across our beloved Ecuador.

My sincere thanks to everyone who made this event possible, including the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture, the Vice Ministry of Sports, FedeGuayas, the University of Guayaquil, representatives of the Ecuadorian Chess Federation, SENESCYT, the National Sports Federation of Ecuador (FEDENADOR), the Ecuadorian University and Polytechnic Sports Federation (FEDUP), and every institution that contributed to bringing together such an extraordinary display of athletic talent. I also extend my appreciation to the referees and judges whose professionalism helped uphold the highest standards of competition.

La juventud y el ajedrez destacan su talento en el IV Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Universitarios e Institutos de Educación Superior 2026.

La Universidad de Guayaquil se llenó de talento al ser sede de este evento multidisciplinario en el cual, en la categoría de ajedrez, jóvenes de distintas provincias ecuatorianas, pusieron a prueba sus cualidades en el deporte ciencia, en una jornada que apenas inicia y se extenderá hasta el sábado 1 de agosto.

Una prueba más de que el ajedrez está vivo en las nuevas generaciones, dispuestas a probarse a sí mismas a través de la pasión y el intelecto.

Los felicito, son un orgullo para sus provincias y universidades. Siempre contarán con mi apoyo.

Young people continue to showcase their talent in chess at the IV Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Universitarios e Institutos de Educación Superior 2026.

The Universidad de Guayaquil became a hub of talent as it hosted this multidisciplinary event. In the chess competition, students from across Ecuador put their skills to the test in the game of strategy and intellect. The tournament has just begun and will run through Saturday, August 1.

This is yet another reminder that chess is thriving among the younger generation—students who are eager to challenge themselves through passion, discipline, and critical thinking.

Congratulations to all the participants. You make your provinces and universities proud, and you will always have my support.

Reforzando el deporte con acciones, no palabras, como directora del torneo de ajedrez en los IV Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Universitarios e Institutos de Educación Superior 2026, junto a los organizadores del evento Ministerio de Educación, Deporte y Cultura, Viceministerio del Deporte, FedeGuayas, Universidad de Guayaquil, y representantes de la Federación Ecuatoriana de Ajedrez, SENESCYT, la Federación Deportiva Nacional del Ecuador (FEDENADOR), la Federación Ecuatoriana del Deporte Universitario y Politécnico (FEDUP) y las instituciones que hacen posible esta gran celebración del deporte universitario.

As Tournament Director for the chess competition at the IV Juegos Deportivos Nacionales Universitarios e Institutos de Educación Superior 2026, I had the privilege of working alongside the organizers Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture of Ecuador, Ecuadorian Vice-Ministry of Sport, FedeGuayas, University of Guayaquil, and representatives from the Ecuadorian Chess Federation, SENESCYT, the National Sports Federation of Ecuador (FEDENADOR), the Ecuadorian University and Polytechnic Sports Federation (FEDUP), and all the institutions that make possible this great celebration of university sport.

My sincere appreciation goes to the arbiters, officials, and organizing team, whose professionalism, integrity, and dedication ensure fair competition at every stage. It is truly inspiring to witness so many talented competitors proudly representing their provinces and universities.

Miami se convirtió en el escenario del mejor ajedrez del mundo con la celebración del WR Chess Rapid & Blitz Miami 2026 ♟

La primera jornada del evento comenzó con la modalidad Rapid, donde los equipos de Estados Unidos y Uzbekistán protagonizaron un enfrentamiento que puso de manifiesto la calidad, la concentración y el talento de dos selecciones que integran la élite del ajedrez internacional.

Competencias como esta impulsan el crecimiento del ajedrez en nuestra región y, al mismo tiempo, inspiran a las nuevas generaciones al acercarlas a los grandes referentes que siguen elevando el nivel de este deporte.

The event kicked off with the Rapid competition, where Team USA and Team Uzbekistan faced off in a thrilling match that showcased the skill, focus, and talent of two of the world's top chess teams.

Events like this help grow the game across our region while inspiring the next generation by bringing them closer to the world-class players who continue to raise the bar for the sport.

Tuve el gusto de compartir una partida amistosa con Javokhir Sindarov, Gran Maestro uzbeko, durante el Opening Ceremony WR Chess America Debut en Miami, un encuentro que reúne a los mejores talentos del ajedrez mundial.

Esto es justo lo que buscamos para América, que tome su lugar siendo sede de grandes eventos y protagonista junto a los mejores ajedrecistas del mundo. Queremos que nuestros niños y jóvenes se inspiren y puedan llegar a estos espacios gracias a la gestión que impulsaremos desde FIDE América. Así brindaremos más oportunidades para que el talento de nuestro continente alcance nuevas metas y llegue cada vez más alto.

I had the pleasure of sharing a friendly game with Uzbek Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov during the Opening Ceremony of the WR Chess America Debut in Miami, an event that brings together some of the world's greatest chess talents.

This is exactly what we envision for the Americas: to take their place as a host of major international events and stand alongside the world's top chess players. We want our children and young people to be inspired and have the opportunity to reach these stages through the initiatives we will promote at FIDE America. In this way, we will create more opportunities for the talent across our continent to achieve new milestones and continue reaching even greater heights.
