Cultural Immersion with the Sápara Nation

On this day, we take a break from running and dive into a unique cultural experience.

We visit a small Sápara community in the heart of the Amazon and learn about one of the most endangered Indigenous cultures in the world—recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Sápara share with us their traditional ceramic art, their worldview, and their stories of resistance and resilience. We participate in a spiritual cleansing ritual and experience the ancestral use of to***co through the nose—a practice believed to clarify thoughts and promote balance.

After a shared meal prepared with local ingredients, we bathe in the Pastaza River and close the day by planting native trees in the forest, leaving behind a small but meaningful contribution to conservation.

It’s a powerful day of cultural exchange, reflection, and reconnection with nature—one that reminds us why this journey is much more than just a running tour.

🌋 Day 3: From Cloud Forest to Crater and Beyond 🌎
Only in Ecuador can you start your day at 1,250 meters above sea level and finish at 3,800—with a trail run inside an inhabited volcanic crater in between.

We began our morning in Mindo, waking up at a small family-run lodge. Before leaving, we made a heartfelt donation of running shoes and clothing to local kids and youth just starting out in this beautiful sport.

Next stop: Pululahua, the only inhabited volcanic crater where you can run through ancient trails surrounded by mist and farmland. A surreal place that feels like time stopped.

After a delicious farm-to-table lunch made with local ingredients, we visited the Middle of the World, standing right on the equator and learning about the unique physics and culture of the line that divides the Earth.

We ended the day at Hostería Corrales Viejos, a beautiful mountain inn run by dear family friends—our home for the night at 3,800m.

This is what makes Ecuador the perfect country for running adventures: dramatic elevation changes, extreme biodiversity, welcoming people, and unforgettable moments—all in a single day.

🌱 Day 2 — San José de Mashpi
A day full of learning, running, and connection in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.

We start deep in the Chocó Andino — hiking, running, and swimming in clean rivers and wild waterfalls.
We’re welcomed by local permaculture friends who host us for lunch and share their stories.
And we visit a small-scale organic cacao farm where conservation means regeneration — one chocolate bar at a time.

Our presence here is more than just tourism.
It gives local families a sustainable alternative to extractive industries.
We learn. We support. We run with purpose.
