Die Tauchbasis Merlin in Sosua (Dominikanische Republik) arbeitet erfolgreich seit 1994 unter der Leitung von Nordküsten-Kenner Jürgen Rumpenhorst (PADI Instruktor und Ausrüstungsspezialist). Just hanging out after dark. 🌙🦑

This squid stayed almost perfectly in one spot during our night dive, hovering quietly in the water and watching us right back.

Sometimes the best encounters are the ones where nobody seems in a hurry to go anywhere. 💙

Just a barracuda… doing absolutely nothing. 😎🐟

Hovering above a barrel sponge, watching the reef go by and looking completely unbothered.

Great barracudas often seem to hang almost motionless in the water, using very little effort while they keep an eye on everything around them. They may look intimidating, but most encounters are simply like this — a beautiful predator quietly cruising or hovering over the reef.

We’ve featured the juvenile before, but the adult spotted drum deserves the spotlight too. 🖤🤍

With its bold spotted pattern and calm, graceful movement, this elegant reef fish is always a beautiful find. Spotted drums are often seen around reefs, ledges and crevices, staying close to sheltered areas.

A classy little reef beauty of the Caribbean. 🤿✨

We shared the herring not long ago… but when they return, we can’t help but stop and admire them all over again. 🐟✨

Thousands of herring surround us at Marco Polo, moving as one breathtaking, shimmering mass.

Absolutely astounding — and a sight we never get tired of seeing. 💙

🩵 When Dad-to-be just wants to be close.

This very pregnant male seahorse spotted his mate and slowly made his way over to be beside her. 🥹🌊

Seahorses are one of nature’s most fascinating role reversals—the female transfers her eggs to the male, and he carries the developing babies in his brood pouch until he gives birth. (Smithsonian Ocean⁠)

Tiny movements, beautiful behaviour, and another reason we never rush a dive. You never know what you’ll get to witness beneath the surface. 💙
