aims to boost the coaching community by igniting the desire to coach.
My name is Ivan Abreu (Tubarão) and my journey as a coach started first as a student of a great coach in the UK - Contramestre at QMC – School of Capoeira - in 2013. Until that point, I had been training Capoeira (Brazilian martial art) for about 4 years. I always thought about it as a great exercise that helped me improve physically until I met Contramestre. He used Capoeira as a way of showing me the things I had to improve as person. I would always come out of training feeling inspired.
I learned how you could use coaching to help not only individuals, but also their community. I returned to the Dominican Republic and felt that my local community needed something like what I had experienced in the UK – I shared this with my master and received lots of support and we were able to set up the school in the Dominican Republic .rd - under my master’s guidance I started to learn very good skills and soon I saw how my own students started to grow not only in Capoeira, but also in their personal lives.
I recently moved to Canada and I was pleasantly surprised that the seeds we planted there, grew and are now bearing fruit as one of my students felt so passionate that he is now starting his own journey as a coach leading the classes there.
Throughout the pandemic, my master kept teaching online. This gave me the opportunity to keep teaching not only to my students in the Dominican Republic, but also in the UK and Brazil.
Coaching has the potential of reaching people of all ages and inspiring them through all sorts of disciplines to improve themselves and their communities. Good coaches can become healthy role models and inspire others to live healthy lives.
For & beyond, you can show your support by updating your profiles with visuals & sharing why you coach
