During the kite camp with Fred Hope the waves in the outside were firing. It was hard not to want to turn a foil camp into a strapless camp 😆 But after the guests were gone, there were still some bombs to be had over the weekend. 🌊

Kite Coaches Corner: Toe Side Turn And The Angles

On today’s episode of Kite Coaches Corner we look at the toe side turn. To some it is known as the bottom turn.
Most riders lose speed in their toeside turn for a variety of reasons. They don’t move the kite fast enough. They turn the board before they turn the kite, or both at the same time. They don’t complete the turn sufficiently to regain line tension on toeside. They have too much back food pressure. I could go on.
A perfectly linked bottom turn is one of the greatest feelings in the world. And linking it to an equally satisfying top turn is possibly the thing I love most about surfing, with or without a kite. It takes the trained eye to help you understand where you are going wrong, and how to fix your mistakes. But once you perfect your turn, the love of surfing is limitless.
The following shots are the technique and sequence of movements necessary to create a high speed toeside turn. These shots were taken on flat water at La Boca in Cabarete. I encourage my clients to practice high speed turns on flat water whenever possible as it allows for the highest speeds over the smoothest conditions. This allows you to concentrate on the technique of the turn and all its subtleties, without having to worry about waves.

In June 2024 world champion Mitu Monteiro returned to Cabarete with Uncharted Kite Sessions under the Caribbean sun for our annual Strapless Master kitesurf wave camp.
It was an incredible 5 days with Mitu and six lucky guests who were able to session the best of Cabarete with Mitu including the world famous surf break Encuentro almost exclusively to themselves. Here's are the highlights of the week.
