Øjeblikket står stille, og adrenalinen tager over.

Even though I have experienced it many times before, it is still something truly special — every single time a salmon takes the fly. The moment stands still, and the adrenaline kicks in.

Vinteren har været lang. Kold.
Holde stangen stram. Vente på hugget.
Det er ikke bare fiskeri. Det er blodet, der kalder.
Jeg er laksefisker helt ind i sjælen.
Og laksefeber? Den går aldrig over.

Winter has been long. Cold. Relentless.
But now it’s happening. The first signs of spring break through – and the salmon fever hits again. It smolders all winter, but now it burns.
The thought of standing waist-deep in an ice-cold, crystal-clear river. Feeling the current push against your legs. Rod tight. Waiting for the strike.
It’s not just fishing. It’s in the blood.
I’m a salmon angler to the core.
And salmon fever? There’s no cure.

It’s always the biggest ones that get away…
The salmon fever through the long winter certainly doesn’t make the fish — or the drama — any smaller.
I can still dream about this one, even though it was many years ago.
Good thing I have it on video, so it doesn’t grow bigger than absolutely necessary 😅

There’s a long wait before we can once again cast our flies across the shimmering currents of the Gaula. But for every salmon angler, anticipation is half the joy.
This season treated us kindly — good water, fine fish, and unforgettable moments along the river. Despite an outbreak of saprolegniosis, I remain optimistic about what lies ahead. The cold winter waters will help cleanse the river, and with the large run of grilse that entered Gaula this year, we may well be in for an exceptional return of medium salmon in 2026.
If you dream of swinging your fly through the legendary waters of the Gaula next season, there are still a few open weeks at Frostfly Beat.
For inquiries, please contact Kenny Frost at mail@frostfly or +45 26 27 52 93.
Tight lines — and may the wait make the reward even sweeter. 🎣
