As a co-driver for the rally team JR Solutions in the West Euro Rally Cup (WERC) for several years and having taken part in rallies in Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Holland as well as Norway I think it is time for us to reflect on what we have achieved and look to the future.
In 2013, we got into this cup without knowing anybody or having any contacts or prior experience with rallies outside Norway.
Looking back, results that are worth mentioning is our first season in 2013 where we managed to achieve 3rd overall in WERC, along with a smashing performance outpacing the other WERC participants along with winning our class in Denmark 2016(DM6).
Our intention was to seek new grounds and get new challenges. Although all the rallies we have taken part in have been on tarmac, when travelling to different countries the surface changes in composition and characteristics, rules and regulations resulting in unique experiences. You can say it is a reason we keep coming back!
JR Solutions has the past few years competed with a Ford Fiesta R2 and a Subaru Impreza STI, which in reality are two very different rally cars. However, the point system WERC uses make both cars viable in the point scoring race towards the title.
Throughout our participation we have met a wide range of challenges of various sorts, met many good competitors, officials and fans, which we would never have done otherwise. Sometimes you need a small push to move outside your own comfort zone, but in the end it is well worth the effort.
If you haven’t considered competing in this cup yet and enjoy tarmac rallies, consider this our recommendation for you to sign up and join us in 2017!
On a final note, I would also like to thank Tom Odder Madsen for his efforts in founding and running the WERC for several years, and we wish all the best to the new organizers and we really look forward to competing in the 2017 season across Western Europe.
