The Icelandic Exiles took part in the scandinavian seven's this year. Even though the wins didn't show up we had a lot of fun and that is what is important when playing rugby!

The Icelandic Exiles first tour in 5 years took place this last weekend. The team went on a social tour to the Scandinavian open 7's in Copenhagen. With only 10 players in total, of which one was already injured and not supposed to play, the team was a little under strength. The players were gathered half and half from the Reykjavík Raiders and the Esbjerg Rugby Klub from Denmark -with with nothing but legends on both sides.

The players played under the following shirt numbers and nicknames at the tournament:

5 The Joker
18 Baguette
2 Hurricane
6 Husted
14 El Mexican
4 Road Runner
7 Iron Man
1 Number One
3 Mighty Mouse
8 Mammut
7 Emilio

The team ended up being placed in a fairly competitive pool on the first day of games and unfortunately only got one draw and three losses that first day.

All players redeemed themselves fully on the social side however in the evening by being some of the hardest hitting and genial party goers at the tournament, rocking up in a princess costume theme that we partially shared with the Esbjerg Rugby Klub women's team which was also at the tournament.

Morning after was rough on all social teams like the Exiles but the team persevered and went on to win one match while loosing the other two remaining games, one of which was extremely close until the bitter end.

All in all I would call this tour a huge success for all involved and all the boys had a great time. I look forward to looking at other touring options for the Icelandic Exiles next year.

Check out our photo album from the tour.

Rent A Tent, the main sponsor of The Reykjavík Raiders women's rugby team is already advertising for the next National Festival (Þjóðhátíð) which takes place once per year in the Westman Islands and is the larges festival in Iceland every year. This year the festival will be held between the 3rd and 7th of August.

More info about the festival can be found here:
https://dalurinn.is/en/page/history

Rent A Tent rents out tents to people leading up to the festival and when the festival starts the tents are already up and ready to be moved into. Below you can see the Rent A Tent area from last year. All available tents have been fully booked weeks in advance of the festival for the last five years.

The tent area is always in the valley itself so it could not be closer to the festivities but is also separated from the rest by a fence for added security. Rent A Tent also offers some additional personal security to its customers and for the last two years members of the Reykjavík Raiders have taken care of said security.

Það gleður okkur að tilkynna að við höfum opnað fyrir sölu á Þjóðhátíð 2017! Það hefur alltaf orðið uppselt hjá okkur og hvetjum við því áhugasama til að bóka tímanlega.

Dear Rugby supporters
This page Icelandic Exiles Rugby Football Club was created for the Icelandic Exiles US and Canada tour in 2013. The Exiles members from Iceland came from the Reykjavík Raiders Rugby club and were joined in America by enthusiastic Americans, Canadians, Scots, Irishmen, Japanese, and even Englishmen.

Since 2013 the Icelandic Exiles have not been active although this page continues to receive interest. For those that have liked this page because of their interest in the development of rugby in Iceland or interest in an Icelandic touring side I would like to point out the page of the Reykjavik Raiders (or Rugbyfélag Reykjavíkur – as it is known in Iceland). Please like our page if you are interested in showing support for the club or just want to follow the work the club does in Iceland: https://www.facebook.com/rfcraiders/

The Reykjavik Raiders are the oldest and most active rugby club in Iceland and has regular training sessions from April to October, twice per week. The Raiders usually go on tour twice per year and play several friendly games each season against visiting teams, including French and English navy ships. Please message the team through Facebook or contact me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions about the Reykjavík Raiders.

Also if you have played for the Icelandic Exiles in the past it would be great to hear from you again. We would be happy to help you with accommodation and receive you at training if you are ever interested in coming to Iceland.

If you are not terribly interested in the particulars of club development or touring I would like to point out the page of Rugby Ísland which is an active page where a lot of information and news concerning the overall development of rugby In Iceland is posted and shared.

UPCOMING TOUR --

Lads and ladies,
Plans are being made for our 2014 tour. The plans have changed slightly, in view of the feedback we received at the AGM last month.

We are very pleased to announce that the Old Albanian RFC (OA), from St. Albans in Heretfordshire, England, is making plans to tour Iceland in late August, 2014. OA is ranked as one of the top 40 clubs in the UK. They have both a strong men's and women's side.

Our plan in view of this tremendous development is to bring an elite men's side and an elite women's side from the US or Canada to play OA in Reykjavik, and a second side of our North American and European members to face Iceland at that same time.

For the first week of September, we will immediately all board a plane in Reykjavik and fly to Denver for a North American portion of the tour, playing 2-3 clubs in the Rocky Mountain West over the span of 7-10 days.

This itinerary will meet our goals for the year of providing an extended rugby experience with a minimum of time away from our careers and family. As laid out above, we will be effectively "touring" for 3 weeks, though we will spend half of that time in the cities of most of our players (SLC, DEN, and RVK). As always, players and their supporters are invited to appear for only a portion of the tour and then disappear again in shame and humiliation.

We will be creating a "tour only" page shortly, and you are invited to join once it is up. Our efforts will be to keep costs as low as possible, while also providing the upgraded amenities that we discussed at the AGM. We will be offering a (for now) refundable payment plan shorty, so as to spread the costs out over a longer period. If the monthly amounts are small enough, it will be easier from us to nick the money out of the monthly grocery allowance we get from our spouses and significant others.

Yours in rugby,
Management
