We (Charlotte Høeg Andersen & Lesley Price) recently had the absolute pleasure of opening our 🌱 exhibition in Taiwan in partnership with the Environmental Protection Administration (Taiwan) (EPA) and The Trade Council of Denmark, Taipei 丹麥商務辦事處. The show features a range of our alumni focussed on and saving our most precious ecosystems.

We also had a great week mentoring design students and meeting (old and new) friends including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and Taiwan's ♻️ pioneers: the Circular Taiwan Network and the Plastic Industry Development Center.

Big thanks to the EPA and the Trade Council for almost 10 years of fantastic collaboration! 🇹🇼x🇩🇰

The production industry is ripe for renewal. Not just to cap over-production but to help transition to more bespoke and models.

That's the goal of nominee Rodinia Generation 🪡. Their scalable micro-factory concept empowers creatives and brands to make only what they need, where they need it, within a fraction of normal production time. And the best part: their entire production process is completely water-free!

"Digital information, for example, design files or CID files of garments (...) are processed all the way through four machines meaning that the digital input becomes a physical output of cut-out garment modules," explains Founder Trine Young. "In 200 square metres, we can manufacture thousands of unique products at the same speed that we can do 1000 copies."

Studio Wolf InMotion believes that designers are too often encouraged to create things that focus on short-term user satisfaction, rather than the long-term impacts on society and the planet.

To showcase this idea, they created The Worst Crit Of Your Life 🖊 an online experience that allows designers and creatives to test their proposals against a trio of virtual assessors.

"It's trying to change the framework that we usually see in design, particularly user-centered design," says Design Director Guillaume Couche. "[We're] trying to make designers think a bit more critically about how they work. [To ask] 'Am I really going to make people happier, by you know, releasing this new thing?'"

The nomination aims to give designers a different perspective on their craft, and perhaps even give them the courage to challenge their superiors about shortsighted or unethical design decisions. Try it out! https://www.theworstcritofyourlife.com/

What if you could copyright your own body to ensure it wouldn’t be manipulated? And what if all the images around you were “bodyrighted”, so you knew you were looking at an unfiltered, natural person?

“Bodyright celebrates what normal, real bodies look like. And the more we see that the more comfortable we actually are with the fact that we have bodies that are very different,” says Shane Bradnick, the Chief Creative Officer at tbwa.nz, the agency behind this .

Bodyright is a campaign and overall movement to fight unrealistic ideals and falsified body images. Users or brands can bodyright their bodies in images and individuals can even wear the bodyright symbol as a necklace to convey their right to not be retouched or filtered.

Wiktor Skoog, Creative Director at TBWA\New Zealand, came up with the idea during the lockdown in 2020: “I saw people filtering their friends without asking for consent to do so. And I also saw, new mothers filtering their babies before putting them out on social media. That's when I was like, okay, we've gone a bit too far.”

Today, the Bodyright campaign is ongoing. TBWA\New Zealand has entered a partnership to put Bodyright on the curriculum in New Zealand schools and everyone can download and utilise the Bodyright logo 🙌

Are brands ever if it's all just about selling more stuff? This nominee created a clever intervention to help improve what's already on the market.

We had a chat with Borre Akkersdijk, Founder and Creative Lead of BYBORRE 🧶 about how they're disrupting the textile production model. Akkersdijk shares his views on greenwashing, democratising bespoke , and how they're helping companies across industries transition to more transparent, efficient and conscious supply chains.

"In this time and age, we need to approach [creating textiles] with an open-source mindset," says Akkersdijk. "And as a society, we need to make better, more controlled and less products."

BYBORRE Create™ enables creatives to produce their own knitted textiles from responsible yarns that are "totally fit to purpose". Users can design digitally, sample quickly and, if needed, produce at scale.

Here’s to disseminating design thinking across the globe! 📚

In 2019, we initiated a collaboration with Siemens Stiftung to implement design thinking and creativity in STEM teaching globally. Now about three years later, over 150 South African and Latin American teachers have been introduced to the Design to Improve Life Compass methodology!

The project wanted to achieve three key goals: First, enabling high quality and holistic STEM education. Second, introducing design thinking as an innovative teaching and learning methodology. And third, utilising the United Nations’ SDGs with their global relevance but also their unique local characteristics.

The work is ongoing with more workshops and Compass courses coming up. If you’d like to know more about the collaboration and read more testimonials from the participants, follow this link: https://bit.ly/SS-TIPx

Every year, tens of thousands of women in Egypt are imprisoned. The reason? They can’t pay their debts. Just a few hundred dollars unpaid can result in years in prison and the stigma of being known as ‘Al Gharemaat’.

Breakchains with Blockchain is an initiative by Horizon FCB Dubai and Children of Female Prisoners Association to free these women by turning their stories into NFT art pieces. Artists donate their talent to create immersive digital art, priced by the amount the women owe. When sold, the money is paid to free the woman in the art piece. So far, the campaign has reached 26 million people and 17 women have been freed. The campaign has even encouraged 60 members of the Egyptian parliament to sign a bill to change the law.

Here, Executive Creative Director of Horizon FCB Rodrigo Leal Rodrigues tells the incredible story behind this solution, which could be replicated in other countries and regions of the world.

Who would have thought that seaweed would make for good period products? Luckily, Ines Schiller did and turned it into nomination of the week Vyld 🪸

The German company Vyld makes tampons, also known as “kelpons”, from seaweed. By nature, seaweed is extremely absorbent and has anti-inflammatory benefits. These kelpons are not only sustainably made, but contribute to ocean habitat restoration, carbon sequestration, responsible consumption and are, no surprise, biodegradable.

With Vyld, Ines and her team have high ambitions for building a more circular society and making menstrual health and wellness less stigmatised and underserved ✊🏽

Currently, Vyld is crowdfunding to help launch its products. Follow the link to learn more and support their mission! https://bit.ly/3RCHZ95
