The 3rd round of the European Hurling & Camogie Championship took us to Vienna, Austria. The mens team started flawlessly with 2 strong group wins against an amalgamated Hamburg team, and then against Paris/France. This set up the semi final against Brussels, who put up a good fight but the Vikings advanced to the final with an 8 point victory. Another challenge awaited us in the final in the form of Luxembourg, who ultimately took the title with a 4 point winning margin. Huge thanks to the 3 hurlers we borrowed from Eindhoven who made a strong contribution to our panel
The camógs also put down a perfect group performance, beating Darmstadt, Hamburg and Vienna. Advancing to the semi, it was Munich/Prague who couldn't stop the Vikings momentum as we kept the scoreboard ticking to make it to the final. Here we met Brussels who came with a grit and determination too much for the Vikings, to take the title back to Belgium. A massive thanks to the camógs from Paris who got stuck in and bolstered our performance over the day
Despite the disappointment in both finals, we had a great time. Congratulations and thank you to Vienna Gaels for organising an excellent day of hurling/camogie. Thank you also to the referees and everyone from GGE involved in the day
We are down but we aren't out. Amsterdam will be our next outing on 3rd October, where we hope to round off the 2026 championship on a high
