Smoking: we love quitters!!!
Smoking is one of the most health damaging habits that also negatively affects your / your family’s economy. Needless to say that it increases profoundly the risk of several chronic diseases, but it is also a habit of the lower classes of society. It doesn't matter where you come from or what your earnings are: treat yourself and your body the way they deserve to be treated and train yourself for success. Being a quitter can be your best decision!
Here’s some of our tips and tricks that can help you on your journey:
1. Acknowledge the addiction.
To***co companies have been pushing for decades the notion that smoking is a choice and a sign of self-expression. Reflect over your experience and feelings when you want to reach for a cigarette and you will soon realize that you are led by a physical need. The denial of your addiction makes you falsely believe that you can quit at any time, therefore there is no rush. You are a victim of the propaganda of the to***co industry. The sooner you realize it, the better you will understand what smoking does to you and you will feel empowered to quit.
2. Set goals and reward yourself
Set your goals, acknowledge some milestones such as 1, 2, 3 months smoke free etc. and reward your achievement with a nice dinner or just any form of celebration. Just be sure you don’t reward yourself with a cigarette and reflect on your urges and tendencies. Self-monitoring is key to awareness and successful following of your plan.
3. Take the journey on your own
You are on day one and you want to brag about it already. But quitting smoking is a process and you could have setbacks. Don’t rush to tell everyone, especially if you are surrounded by other smokers. They might try to bring you down, bring you ‘back to the club’. Moreover, in case of an occasional setback, the last thing you need is to hear the words ‘See, I told you you won’t be able to’. Just follow your own path, don’t draw attention to it and only present the results when you know you have overcome your addiction.
4. Build yourself smoke-free routines
Build new hobbies, activities and routines that don’t include smoking. Sometimes taking a completely different direction than the status quo can help you establish your new identity. Replace your old habits with new, ideally health inducing activities, such as running, yoga or just anything that makes you feel good.
