Ladies’ night. Danish Katrine got in touch a while back to ask if I’d take her and her friends for a run while they were visiting Copenhagen. Of course I would! The group first met years ago at a running club in Chester (UK) and have kept in touch ever since.
To make our schedules fit, we ended up going for a Saturday night run, setting off at sunset — which explains my awful photo! But the run itself was brilliant — such a lovely group.
They even brought me a souvenir that perfectly summed them up (Katrine had asked if I’d like anything): a photo from 2018, when they ran the Mourne Skyline Race. Look it up — it involves 2,700 metres of elevation… You may notice that four of them is wearing the same running shirt in the night photo. It’s the race shirt Mourne Skyline of course.
They even invited me for pizza and a beer afterwards, which I’d have LOVED to join, if I’d had the time.

So thanks, Lizzy, Laura, Leigh, Alex and Katrine — definitely a night to remember.

Divya, the half-marathoner
Divya travelled from New York to run the Copenhagen Half Marathon – her second this year and her fourth in the past twelve months. We’re truly honoured that she chose Copenhagen for her first international half.
She needed a 7–8 km run last Thursday to fit in the last few miles, and a previous running guest, Ashley, suggested she get in touch with me.
The best option turned out to be a morning run with my social running club* to start with, after which we took in a few sights on our way to the Østerbro neighbourhood, where her hotel was – and where I happen to live. Since I lead one of the groups in the club, we managed to include a few sights there as well.

Oh, and Divya set a new personal best!

(*I’ll definitely have to do a separate post about the running club – stay tuned.)

Canadian Nice. It's a cliche, I know, but Canadians are said to be especially polite. I can confirm that—I've had quite a few Canadian guests over the years, and they live up to their reputation.
The most recent were Lisa and Caroline, a mother and daughter who ran with me a few weeks ago. They were referred by Allan (also Canadian), my most frequent guest—and a good friend now. I feel confident they enjoyed our run as well, but I certainly appreciated every minute.
Or maybe it's not just that they're polite—maybe it's that famous Canadian niceness. That's a stereotype too, of course, but in my experience, it's true.
I hope I get to run with more Canadians in the future.

When possible, I'll sometimes arrange free (or fundraising) social runs when the right occasion arises. Today, a new stretch of the M4 metro line opened, so why not run along it? About 40 runners joined. Best company!
(Damn I love this hobby!! 🤩)

Thanks to Mikael Houborg for the photo.

Much cherished guests.
Last summer, the run buddy "business" was slow. All the better when guests came around.
One of my fondest memories was running with this German family. As it turned out, two sisters from the family had already been running with me, one in 2018 and one in 2020. I suppose they must have enjoyed it. 😉 (Still one sister to go, though.)
Oh, and they brought "tips" – homemade Sauerkirsche (sour cherry) jam from their own garden! 😋😍
Much cherished run buddies and much cherished cherries.

I don't get too many French running guests, but luckily, Claire and Leila found me, planning their first visit to Copenhagen.
They asked for a run with a mix of green and cute, and I believe I met their expectations. Christianshavn, where the picture is from, is a go-to neighborhood for "cute," and the old ramparts nearby supplied the "green."
Nice and fun company on a Saturday morning."

The bridge where this/these picture(s) were taken, Dronning Louises Bro, will from now on be referred to as “The New Zealander’s Bridge”.
I ran with Izzie from New Zealand yesterday morning, and had a plan of maybe taking a photo of her in the garden of the Royal Library, (lovely little quiet park, you should see it), where I once took a picture of Philine who referred Izzie to me (thanks Philine!). I was too busy talking about the history of the place, so I completely forgot all about it, though.
BUT later on we passed Dronning Louise’s Bridge, where I some years ago took a photo of Marita, my first guest from New Zealand. So that’s why the name of the bridge just changed.

Izzie was in town for a weekend trip from Poland where she works from, but was able to squeeze in a run with me before flying back Monday morning. Possibly one of the fastest runners I’ve guided, if it wasn’t for me slowing her down. Sorry about that, Izzie. 😉

Finally tourists bringing their running shoes seem to be coming back to Copenhagen in almost the number they did before covid.
-Happy days for the run buddy.
I’ve written this before, I guess. Maybe a few times, even. But it’s still true. I get to meet the SWEETEST people doing this! This morning it was Jessica and Shaun (daughter and father) from Scotland, in town with more family for a few days. So they took a head start to some of the local sights and landmarks on their first morning in Copenhagen. As many as I was able to fit into a 12 km run.
Oh, and even though running with me is free, they brought me tips. -A wide assortment of Scottish items (oh yes, a wee whisky WAS one of them) and even two beautiful leather key hangers with Scottish motifs made by Jessicas grand father. 🤩
Another run buddy morning I won't likely forget any time soon.
