Your social media feed is full of everyone’s 2025 achievements, highlights, and best moments. It’s easy to feel the urge to compare yourself and your achievements to others’. But right now—when you’re setting your goals for 2026 and deciding where to put your focus—it’s more important than ever to remember:

Find goals that matter to YOU.

External goals are easy to see, measure, and brag about. They’re your medals, placings, and titles.

Internal goals are often hard to see from the outside, but they’re the most important ones. Getting into the arena without fear. Finally nailing that flying lead change in a Horsemanship class. Your first run without penalties. A horse that stays relaxed at a show.

Without internal goals, titles and achievements can feel empty. Amazing in the moment—but once you’re home, the void creeps in, and sometimes you feel like you’re not enough. Internal goals can’t be seen or compared. Only you know when you’ve truly succeeded.

You can share the goals that really matter to you with your trainer, barn friend, horse show bestie, or even on social media if you feel like it. They will understand how big that moment is for you—and they’ll cheer you on.

2026 can be the year you build the habit of focusing on internal goals first, then layering external goals on top. That’s the recipe for happy, long-lasting, and successful careers in the show pen.

Let this also be a reminder that we never truly know another rider’s journey. For some, a championship title is the next big step. Others may be dealing with injuries or setbacks and are simply happy to make it into the show pen. Be kind and supportive of your peers—it helps our sport grow and creates a friendlier environment 🙏❤️

May you have a happy New Year. I hope you achieve the goals that matter most to you. ✨

“Just you and me” 🩷

… is one of the most difficult concepts to bring into the show arena. When we get nervous at shows, it’s always because of an expectation. We expect people to look at us, having an opinion about us, we expect things to go wrong or we expect that we forget the pattern.

To leave these expectations at the gate, I like to use the sentence: “Just you and me” and repeating it until the nerves start to fade away. If you can master bringing the feeling of just being with your horse and doing what you enjoy the most into the show pen, I can guarantee you, that you’ll perform a lot better 🩷

What do you tell yourself before you go into the show arena? 🥰

What does it take to win? And what is the price you are willing to pay to get there? 🏆

Questions like these sparked my interest for learning about mental performance and coaching back in the days… 😅 A Mental Trainer certification and many years of practice later it’s such a big part of what I do today, that it’s hard for me to think about it as “something extra” to work on. I believe our attitude, ability to dream, plan and execute are the building stones for any successful relationship with a horse and without having a big mental toolbox, it’s difficult to have success.

I’ve promised myself to make more time to share this part of my work more with you and hope to help you get inspired and add a few tricks to your toolbox 🤍

Do you know the feeling, when you’ve prepared, put your tears and sweat into getting to the horse show, you’re finally riding into the show pen and then… something goes wrong… 🤯 Your first thought is probably something like: oh 💩! And then you have two choices:

• Will you let this mistake affect you and ruin your whole ride?
• Or will you shift your focus, act like nothing happened and move on?

I think we all agree, that option B here is the better way to go about it. One thing is, that it’s healthy for us riders, to learn to navigate “bubbles”. Another thing is, that keeping your focus on the mistake can ruin the rest of your ride. Try to ask any judge and they will tell you, that many times the winner CAN be a horse, who made a mistake somewhere in their run, but they were still the best ones in the class. Because other people make mistakes too, and by keeping your focus on doing your best, can help you perform the rest of your pattern/run beautifully, even though a mistake happened earlier.

So your takeaway: KEEP ON SHOWING! 🤠 It shows confidence, it helps your horse get back on track, every maneuver is a new score on your scoresheet and in a multiple-judge-situation, one of the judges might not have even seen your mistake.

Has it ever happened to you that a mistake ruined your ride completely? What would you do differently, if you could go back in time? 🧐

Happy Birthday to me and to The Lead Change by Dora Gocze 🥳🫶🧡

Today I don’t just celebrate my 30th birthday, but also the beginning of a new addition to my business, “the Lead Change by Dora Gocze” 🧡

It’s not ready, it’s not polished and it’s definitely not perfect (what a great metaphor for a round birthday 🤔🤪) But I didn’t want to wait any longer to share it with you, since it’s been a project I’ve been working on for at least a year now and I’m really passionate about it 💫🥳

You’ll continue to find all my horse-related content at Dora Gocze Equestrians and if you’re interested in digging a little deeper in Personal Development and Mental training, give me a follow at The Lead Change by Dora Gocze as well 🧡

The Lead Change will offer 1:1 sessions, Workshops and Team building events to help people develop their personal leadership, body language, communication skills and much more. I basically packaged everything I learned from and through horses in the last 25 years and I can’t wait to share it with as many people as possible! 🤩

“The real joy in life comes from finding your true purpose and aligning it with what you do every single day” - Tony Robbins.

Cheers to that! 🥳🫶🎉
