So as hunting seasons are underway, the divide between us has become more severe.
Hunters bickering, complaining, fighting. Making rude comments to each other, disrespecting one another, disrespecting the heritage, and disrespecting what it means.
I remember since I could walk all I ever wanted to do was be in the woods with my dad, friends, family.
I remember as I got older becoming more obsessed with deer. Studying them, reading about them, making every attempt to have the knowledge and understanding of what makes them tick.
I remember when it became more about putting in so much extra time, effort, work to see others, my friends, my family be successful. Having a hand in others success is far more rewarding than my own.
I know where I came from, I know how I got where I am, and I never forgot that.
So heres my public cry......
If you dont enjoy what someone has chosen to harvest move along, you dont need to be rude
If you hunt different than others that's fine, embrace what others do that you dont, you well may learn something.
Stop pretending to know everything, stop trying to put the tape measure in front of the memory.
Follow the laws, follow regulations, respect the animals, nature, landowners, and yourself.
Before you belittle someone for shooting a 2.5 year old 6 point, swallow your ego, and congratulate someone, positivity will make you much happier than self loathing because you proclaim yourself as a pro, trust me you're not.
Please find it in yourselves as hunters, as men, as women, to stand together, if we dont we will surely hang separately.
Embrace the little moments, cherish the memories you create with family and friends, those are the things that will be remembered.
Dig deeper, find a way to step outside yourself to be a better hunter, better outdoorsman, and a better human.
I was going back through hours of footage from years past, going through old photos, smiling because I remember each and every one just like it was yesterday. Those memories, those moments are etched in my heart forever because in those moments, bonds were strengthened, joy was felt, and memories were made.
Be safe this year, hunt hard, and enjoy the ride.
POSTED from (LM): the above superb write up was written by my nephew, Matthew Rankin, in the great state of PA. I just wanted to share his words with you all to remind all of us hunters to stick together and appreciate each other success. Waidmannsheil!
