The British Biathlon Union (BBU) was formed in 1996 to act as the National Governing Body (NGB) for the Olympic winter sport of Biathlon in Great Britain (GBR). We are a not-for-profit membership based organisation, funded almost entirely by sponsors, the IBU, the Army Winter Sports Association and the athletes. Our primary purpose is to get our athletes to the Olympic Winter Games. We strive to h

elp the sport of Biathlon grow and have positive recognition in Great Britain; inspiring enjoyment, health and community to its participants, families and supporters. The BBU is a full member of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the British Olympic Association (BOA), National Olympic Committee (NOC), and UK Sport. We train and select male and female athletes to represent GBR at Olympic, World and IBU Cup events and World Championships. We also select, and usually support, athletes to compete in Youth / Junior World Champs; Youth/European Youth Olympic Winter Games. Nearly all biathletes in Great Britain are serving members of the Armed Forces, and British Biathlon is hugely grateful to the long term partnership with the army. The British National Championships take place in Ruhpolding, Germany, in January, where most of the National Squad also train. The BBU is run on a voluntary basis by the BBU Board, a part time paid Secretary General, and a number of co-opted willing volunteers.

British Biathlon at Liatoppen 2026! 🇳🇴🤝🇬🇧

Last weekend saw some of our skilled youth athletes descend on Geilo to learn from experienced coaches and athletes, and to have fun and compete with likeminded biahletes from around the world!

Some really good results from the athletes in the racing, but equally important is learning and enjoying the sport looking ahead to the next few years of progression.

A great event from , and a special thanks to all the coach’s and athletes involved 🌍

The curtain has fallen on the 2025–26 season, and what a season it has been for Great Britain!
There has been plenty to celebrate, but the standout takeaways from the season are:

✅ Two athletes qualified and competed in the Olympic Games
📈 Both the Men’s and Women’s teams finished ranked 24th at World Cup level, which puts us years ahead of schedule. This means that we now have starting rights for two Men & two Women for the whole World Cup next seaon as well as three starting rights for Men & Women at the World Championships.
🏅We matched our highest ever championship finishing place at any level with 12th place at the last ever Youth and Junior World Championships (next year it will only be for junior athletes).
⛷️ We maintained our top 20 ranking for women in the IBU Cup, meaning four start places, and narrowly missed out on finishing 21st for the men, improving from 24th to 21st.
🎉 We now have 31 U17 to Senior IBU-ranked athletes, 13 Women and 18 Men ensuring we have athletes moving up to keep the momentum moving forward and new U17 athletes joining the programme this year.
🌍 We have nearly 70 athletes signed up to the new TID campaign kicking off this spring.
🇳🇴 Three GBR Youth athletes have been selected to attend Norwegian sports schools from August 2026.

Thanks for all the support throughout the whole season, and on to an exciting Summer season! More information on this very soon 👀

Marcus Bolin Webb bows out 🇬🇧

The final day of our Winter Season today, and it marks the closing of the Biathlon career of Marcus Bolin Webb. A stalwart for British Biathlon over the past few seasons, we couldn’t be prouder of all he’s achieved ❤️

Tough conditions on the day, both Jacques and Marcus hit 80% with a couple of misses in the stand ⚪️⚪️⚪️⚫️⚪️

Time really flies during the winter season, and thank you so much to all the athletes, staff, and supporters for all their hard work and dedication during this intense time of the year!

There’s plenty to look forward in the Spring/Summer for British Biathlon, and more on this soon!

Shawna Pendry closes out her season 🇬🇧

A lovely 5/5 from Shawna in the stand was a fitting end to what has been a productive season for her as she’s solidified her World Cup position throughout the full season using some superb accuracy in the range ⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️⚪️

We’ve got Jacques and Marcus racing in the Men’s Sprint tomorrow, so stick around for that!

Relay day on the World Cup 🌍

Warm and Windy characterised the day over in Otepää, leading to some interesting shooting scores across the board, and the British teams were not insulated from it!

Despite the missed targets, it’s truly fantastic to have both a Single Mixed as well as a Mixed Relay team racing today wearing the British Biathlon race suit and it’s a testament to all the hard work and dedication from every member of the team 🫶

Happy Mother’s Day! We’ll be back for the final racing of the winter season next weekend 🥲
