Glacier tour „ice cave - only the brave“, Iceland, Skaftafell

At first, while booking, I felt very brave. Then when I saw the black, rainy clouds around the glacier I started to doubt whether I am really as brave as I initially thought.

Upon arrival we met August, our Icelandic guide and he greeted me with the sentence: „you just need proper shoes, crampons and ice axe and you are all set to go. It’s gonna be crazy. Crazy and safe. Safe because you have the right guide“.

And this makes me think. It reminds me of my entire life.

Get the right mentor, use the right tools and you are all set for making crazy decisions. Crazy and safe.

Yes, you can get both.

I just came back from Iceland and I feel inspired. I have always heard about icebergs and the iceberg model (that 80% of the truth is hidden) but I could never really imagine what a real iceberg looks like and what it actually means.

What is a glacier? What is an iceberg? What is the difference?

What is a glacier? When really a lot of snow falls and some more falls and then some more and it never melts then the snow compresses more and more and over time under the pressure of the amount of snow it becomes ice. And this huge icecube is a glacier, often surrounded by mountains. Glacier is able to push them away.

In the summer, especially now as the global warming continues accelerating, the glacier creates crevasses, pushing the old ice away, pulling the new one into the inside of it.

And this old ice in the bottom of the glacier as it melts creates lagoons in which pieces of the glacier ice fall in, detaching from the big glacier. These pieces are cold icebergs and this is what you can see in the video below. Really beautiful!

The fact is that 80% is hidden under water. The fun fact is that the icebergs break and turn upside down often revealing the parts on the bottom giving the new color and truth over the water surface. Showing parts of its history (sometimes you can see lines of ashes from the volcano eruption 🌋 hundreds of years ago).

We all have our hidden truths and needs and they all can be revealed when we are ready to turn our lives upside down just like the icebergs.

Do you feel that you live in the wrong place? That you belong somewhere else? That your dream place to live is not where you live right now? That because of this you can’t live your fullest potential?

But you think: I can’t move there because
-I’m bound here
-I’m settled here
-I don’t speak the language
-I can’t leave my dog behind
-My family wouldn’t move with me
-I have a mortgage
-I have to take care of my grandma
-I don’t know anyone there
-I have a job here
Etc etc.

Last year I wanted to participate in the Mission and Purpose Strategic Program with the greatest Allan Tsang and Dan Oblinger but I had no money to pay. I could stop there. But I didn’t. I asked my boss if my company would pay. I received a „no“. I could stop there but I didn’t. I have heard a „no“ several times along the way. And at each step I could have stopped there, but I didn’t and I continued fighting until finally I found the way to participate. And it was life changing.

And now I ask you:

How often do you say or think: „I would love to join but…“?

Or:
„I would love to change my career but…“?

Or:
„I would love to take a year off from work to travel but…“?

Or:
„Wow, I envy you for your achievements but it is too late for me to do similar…“?

All these „buts“ they are all in our heads. If you really want something, you shall find the way how, not the reason why not.
