The course programme for the 2026 summer camp – A tribute to the vision of O'Sensei Richard Kim
Throughout his life, O'Sensei Richard Kim had a grand vision: the idea of a university of martial arts. A place where styles, nations and teachers come together, where not only techniques are taught, but also the spirit, attitude and understanding of budo are cultivated. For him, this idea was not an abstract dream, but a way to preserve and pass on martial arts as a holistic school of life.
The Kokusai Butokukai Summer Camp 2026 is deliberately intended as a tribute to this vision. The diverse course programme is structured in such a way that it opens up a broad, in-depth and at the same time coherent field of learning for participants – in the spirit of a living martial arts university.
Shorinji Ryu Karate Do, Okinawa Kobudo, Tai Chi and Chi Kung are taught in parallel and coordinated units. Each discipline stands on its own, yet is part of a larger whole. Karate trains clarity, structure and determination, while kobudo deepens the understanding of distance, timing and traditional weaponry. Tai chi and chi kung open the mind to inner work, energy flow, health and mindfulness.
The programme is supported by an international team of instructors consisting of Hanshi, Kyoshi, Renshi and Sifu, who not only impart technical excellence, but also decades of experience and lived Budo. Different teaching approaches and cultural influences are not seen as contradictions, but as enrichments – just as O'Sensei Richard Kim dreamed it would be.
The course programme invites participants to look beyond their own style, recognise connections and experience martial arts in all its depth. It is not about faster, higher, further – but about understanding, connecting and growing.
Thus, the 2026 summer camp will be more than just a training camp: it will be a place of encounter, learning and inspiration. A place where the idea of a university of martial arts comes to life for a week – as a respectful tribute to O'Sensei Richard Kim and as a mission for the future of budo.
