Today it was time for my second race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Or let me say only the Nordschleife, because now the race was at the 20,8km north loop.
With more than 100 cars at the start of RCN 3 "Feste Nürburg" the track was well filled. It was with this race that we opened the 24h weekend ❤️
The driversbriefing was yesterday evening and the race was this morning. We need to be with the team at 6.45AM and the start was at 8.15AM. Because of this we booked a room at hotel Hüllen in Barweiler, a nice typical german style hotel.
After the briefing we had dinner again with my teammate at ristorante “Zur Alten Scheune” in Barweiler.

About today:
When my first race was a dry & sunny one, today it was the complete opposit, wet & rainy (and a small amount of sun at the end) 😬.
I was not so happy with the way I have driven.
Because of the rain the visibility becomes very limited. Mainly at the “Döttinger Hohe” straight, where we drive more than 200 km/h, the vehicles in front leaves a lot of spray + sometimes I lost also the rear end of the BMW because of the slipery surface.
But the most important thing, we ended the race. What was again the main goal of the day.
My teammate had now achieved his "International D" license (Finish 5 races in maximum 2 years) and I am normaly able to get my “permit Nordschleife C" (Bucketlist ✅)

Even though we have achieved our goal, It just feels "not good enough" for myself. Unfortunately that's just how I am, more competitive than recreative 😔.
I also want to see for the future which choices I can make best to make progress, being cost efficient and that family/work life also fits in with it.

But after all, it was again a day to never forget ❤️

Thank's for reading 😉

Arrived at the Nürburgring for the race tomorrow morning. Checked the seat already because last race the foot pedals were a little too far.
Also did a little chat with David Pittard from the Walkenhorst Motorsport team.

Yesterday the time had finally come, my first real race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
With 167 cars we were at the start of RCN 1 “Preis der Schloßstadt Brühl”.
This coincided with the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers weekend.
As a reward we therefore received the 24h track layout to drive. In short, 25.3 km of fun per lap ❤️.

The run-up to the race was quite nerve-wracking because my license and the communication set for my helmet were delayed.
Ultimately upon departure on Friday:
-license delivered ✅
-Helmet communication set ❌

In order to have a relaxed start to my race day, we left a day earlier and booked an overnight stay at “Speedys Gästehaus am brünnchen”. I was also able to have my racing equipment inspected and do the necessary paperwork on Friday evening. The inspection of the helmet was a little slower because they did not immediately find the FIA standard. This was because the helmet was too new, 🙈 in the end everything turned out fine 👍🏻.
In the meantime, my German teammate had also arrived at the clothing inspection. After an initial introduction, we decided to have something to eat together with women/children/friends in the cozy “ristorante Zur Alten Scheune” in Barweiler. In short, a GREAT NIGHT.

I woke up at 6am on Saturday morning.
While I took a shower, my wife prepared me a hearty breakfast (6 eggs with bacon + 2 croissants 🤣).
A little later the team boss sent that he had found a solution for the communication problem with the helmet. He therefore asked to come to the track as soon as possible.
I quickly put on my racing outfit and by 9am he had my helmet.
In the meantime, the sun was already out ☀️ and we were able to spot some cars from our competitors.
The information briefing for new participants took place at 11 am, followed by the driver briefing at 12 noon. The helmet communication problem had also been resolved by this time 😅
Since the license upgrades are the most important for us, arriving was the most important thing of the day. (Upgrades can only be obtained by completing races within a certain period). So don't take unnecessary risks!

1pm, the race started. My teammate took care of the start and I took care of the end.
I still had time to eat a typical German bratwurst and drink my coke (Caffeine appears to be good for concentration 🤣).
Around 2 p.m. I went to the pit lane to get ready and wait for my teammate. Many teams came in to make a driver change and so did we. My adventure could begin, quickly into the car, seat forward, the pit crew putting on my seat belts and cleaning the windshield,... I could leave.
It soon became clear that there was more to it than just driving a car. Checking mirrors for faster traffic, chatting and listening through the radio, pulling papers after every lap (This was an aid if communication were to fail), being able to quickly spot flags,... For example, a Code 60 flag (60 km/h) appeared when I just came out of Foxhole compression and had to brake very hard 😬
Multitasking certainly applied.
It was also nice that I didn't have to slow down on the Döttinger Höhe straight and I was able to push the BMW towards 250 km/h. In the TF sessions that I often do, it is on this part that you have to scan to start a new round.
At the end of the race and returning to parc fermé, there were many people waving and taking photos, which was also a unique experience. That was also the cramp in my left calf that made it almost impossible for me to get out of the car 🤣.
We ended the day in the team tent on the paddock with a snack and a drink.

Conclusion, I enjoyed every second, we finished and I'm looking forward to my next race ❤️

Point to work on for myself: I don’t want to disturb faster cars. As a result, I give up my own lap times too much to give them free passage, even though I am not officially required to do so. I'll try to pay more attention to this next race.
