The next episode and the finale of season one! I share my own summary of what inspired me while doing the interviews of the first season, and I tease what's going to happen in season two.

Listen to this episode from Gongfu Crew on Spotify. Episode no. 13 is a special episode: I share the insights and perspectives I gained from talking to all the interesting teachers and practitioners I had on the podcast during season 1. I also share my thoughts on what's next for the podcast. If you...

Listen to this episode from Gongfu Crew on Spotify. This episode will feature another staple of Southern Kungfu: Southern Praying Mantis. Specifically, we will be talking about the Kwong Sai Jook Lum variant. My guest, Philipp Le, has a very broad background in martial arts, but specializes in this...

The first full episode of the Gongfu Crew Podcast is online, and it features none other than the peach-stealing monkey (king) himself, Will Wain-Williams!

We had a great, in-depth chat about Praying Mantis Boxing but also touched upon what's coming next for Monkey Steals Peach at the end of the episode.

You can find it on Zencastr (https://zencastr.com/z/3Pjg-Z4k) as well as on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.

In this first full episode of the Podcast I had the opportunity to talk to Will Wain-Williams, the man behind the Monkey Steals Peach channels. The style of Kungfu that he studied himself for many years is Taiji Meihua Tanglangquan, a form of Praying Mantis Boxing. He introduces the style and goes i...

Training physical strength is a contentious issue in internal martial arts. Which is interesting in itself, because no other tradition of martial arts has this kind of obsession with it.

It can be interesting to think about it though, because it helps us be more mindful and goal-oriented in our training.

Archery was once one of the mainstays of Chinese martial arts. Nowadays, nobody even thinks of bow and arrow when they hear Kungfu. Is that good, bad, or completely irrelevant?

Archery is fun either way 😎

People in the internal martial arts often obsess over the idea of energy in martial arts. Usually they refer to qi or ki - but explanations of what these terms are supposed to mean are often vague, ambiguous, not consistend with modern scientific ideas, and also not very helpful for actual practice. Do we need to get rid of the terms? Or can we somehow incorporate older cultural ideas into our modern practice?

I believe so. And hopefully the article gives enough food for thought so we can have a substantial and objective discussion on the topic.

Just not the way most people think Does energy work have a place in Taijiquan? Or do we need to scrap the idea as well as the term “qi” from our dictionary if we want to practice it seriously, developing fighting skill and gongfu in the process? I would argue that we need to reframe our understa...
