Interested in Animal Conservation, preserving Nature and maintaining a healthy and balanced ratio of game while stationed in Germany --- you'll need to take the German Hunting Course. In Germany, Hunters are trained to be Conservationists first and Hunters second!
Once you have successfully completed the course, passed all of the exams and obtained your Jagdschein, the German Hunting License, you are legally allowed to own hunting weapons in Germany!
This Winter, we are fortunate to have two different Hunting Course options offered by Baumholder Outdoor Recreation - class on Wednesday nights (1800-2100) in the CYS classroom on Pulaski and Thursday nights at a local German range (1700-2000). The Pulaski Course begins on February 4 and concludes with the Safety, Shooting, Written and Verbal Exams on April 18.
Option two offers class and range on Saturdays 10-4:30 in Baumholder at the Outdoor Rec facility - January 31 through April 19. Class begins on January 31, and the exam is on April 19. Some range options may take place on a Sunday or two.
Attendance is required; the exams are proctored by a German official and an IMCOM representative. This course is only available to US Citizens with SOFA Status.
Cost of the class is $250 plus HFSS membership fees, range fees, license fees and the cost of ammo. Call Baumholder Outdoor Recreation to register

The Kaiserslautern Rod & Gun Club is also offering the German Hunting Course. It begins on January 27 and tests on March 22, 2026. This course is in the classroom on Tuesday/Thursday nights (1800-2100) and on the range certain Saturdays. Call the Rod & Gun Club for more information: 0631-536-7574. This course is $299 plus HFSS fees, license fees, and ammo.
