We are a growing youth rugby team, for children between the ages of 5-16, no prior rugby experience is required!

- Training takes place Sundays 10:30-12:00.

- Our coaches speak both english and german.

Our newest member of the coaching team is Julian, he started up with rugby last year and now wants to expand his knowledge with some coaching. Let’s get to know him…

🔵Age and where are you from?

I’m 29 years old and German, born near Cologne.

🔵Why did you start rugby and how long have you played for?

I started pretty late in 2024. I was looking for full contact team sport and watched a rugby game on YouTube, I fell in love with the sport after that. The Honey Badgers took me in like family from day one and I loved every day since that.

🔵What inspired you to become a rugby coach?

Head Coach Harry needed assistant coaches for conducting the kids training and since I love being on the pitch so much I thought of giving it a go.

🔵What position do you play and why do you like that position?

I play Front Row. Tighthead and Loosehead Prop. I like the position due to the intensity of scrums, being the biggest guy on the pitch and dominating the opposing team mentally and physically.

🔵What’s your favorite rugby team?

The Honey Badger RFC

Internationally Wallabies because I have family in Australia

🔵Who is your all-time favorite rugby player?

Faf de Klerk, because he demonstrates perfectly that it’s not just your size but the fight in you that counts. He’s a perfect demonstration of our honey badger mentality.

🔵What’s your best rugby memory?

My first game with the Honey Badgers.

🔵If you had a rugby-themed superpower, what would it be?

Letting every other ruck explode by running into it

Our next coach is our head coach Harry, he took over as head coach last year and has been enjoying it ever since. He is also the men’s vice captain. Let’s get to know him…

🔵Age and where are you from?

I’m 27 and I’m from Hertfordshire, England.

🔵What inspired you to become a rugby coach?

I’m really passionate about the sport and work really well with kids of all ages. Then the opportunity arose to take over as the head coach and I thought why not, I’ve enjoyed every Sunday since I took over.

🔵What position do you play and why do you like that position?

Fly half (10) or inside centre (12).

I enjoy fly half because I feel like I can control the game better and I love it when a big forward spots space and you hit them with the pass and they break through.

I enjoy 12 because it’s a dynamic position, I can control the game still but also attack more by running attacking lines against the defense and I enjoy defending in the 12 position.

🔵What’s your favorite rugby team?

So I have two my rugby union team is Saracens and my Rugby league team is London Broncos

🔵Who is your all-time favorite rugby player?

It has to be Johnny Wilkinson, I watched him whilst I was growing up I had posters of his kicking techniques on my wall and an England jersey with his number on the back.

🔵What’s your best rugby memory?

That’s a tough one, it would be either finally winning the Herts county shield with Hitchin Colts after 5 years.

Or it would be making my debut for the German rugby league team.

🔵How long have you have played rugby?

I’ve played rugby since the age of 5 so 22 years 😅, I started off at Hitchin Rugby Club at the age of 5 and stayed with that team going from the youth teams, to the 3rd XV, 2nd XV and then finally the 1st XV until I moved to Germany in 2019.

I’ve played rugby league for 12 years.

🔵If you had a rugby-themed superpower, what would it be?

I think it would have to be never miss a tackle, defence wins games and there is no better feeling than putting in a dominant tackle on your opposition.

The HoneyBadger Cubs Rugby Football Club is focused on teaching the youth of the Kaiserslautern area the greatest game on this planet: rugby! We will work to grow this sport from ground up and teach kids all the great aspects of the game and being part of a club.
