A hot summer evening at my grandparents’ house when I was six. Bread, sunflower oil, salt. The most biodiverse country in Europe, more than twenty ethnic groups, each with its own corner and its own way of eating.

That’s the Romania I talked about. Not castles, not Dracula. Tomatoes still warm from the sun.

I first traveled to Sulina in 2007 with a friend, after a long train journey from Arad to Tulcea. We didn’t know anyone there, yet we ended up spending the night with a local family who welcomed us into their home. It’s one of those travel memories I’ve never forgotten.

Almost 20 years later, I returned. This time, I saw Sulina from the water on the way to the Black Sea and spent a day on its beach. Some places have a way of staying with you, quietly waiting until it’s time to come back.

Before August fully disappears in the rearview mirror, here’s a peek at some of our summer adventures:

💍 Celebrating two dear friends’ wedding in the heart of Transylvania at Ugron Castle.
🍝 Endless orecchiette + swims in both the Adriatic and Ionian seas while in Puglia.
💃 A trip back to the 70s for a friend’s 50th — all the way in Lisbon.

To great friends, delicious meals, wild adventures, and love — especially for the two blondes in my house and .spiac . Life together = bliss.
