For the last game of the season, chasing that elusive Win after losing two in a row and plenty more in 2023, we opted for a tricky move to confuse our opponent.
We just flat out did not play defense, with the hope to catch City disoriented and then hit them on the other side of the floor. It kind of worked for one quarter, then they figured out the gates were open and went on to score 30 pts in the 2nd quarter alone, which is unknown and perhaps even a record for a Freibeuter team in Regio. We do pride ourselves in beating previous records if we have the chance, we are no quitters here :D
We then opted for a less experimental approach and started playing some defense, which resulted in 21 points given up in the whole 2nd half. It's amazing how playing defense can affect the game, it worked! :D
At that point we found ourselves in the sadly familiar situation of the last 3 months to try and catch them from behind and unfortunately we have been unable to do that in 2023. The fire is out, the torch is gone, probably lost at a family dinner during the Christmas Holidays, during a work meeting, or while on a sky trip with friends. The mystery is indeed intriguing, we will try to locate the fire in the upcoming months. "Search and Rescue" is going to be the title of our pre-season work most likely, because we have no idea what kind of traumas and spells have all converged to turn a very good and sparkling hot season into a cold landslide ending with a backflip worth of olympic glory.
Back to the game, the City girls needed a win and they definitely wanted it more than us, even though we had some very good runs on offense and some good performances to acknowledge.
That was the case with many of the last games though: too little too late, ex*****on and relentless intensity brought us up in the table, the massive lack of all of it dropped us to the spot we own now.
However, the ship made it safely to the port after a turbulent sail. We secured a spot in the league for next season and this was our first and not to be missed goal last summer.
