Drying out the balloon with the help of the local fire department and packing it up for shipment home — hard to believe we just picked it up here in Frankfurt a few days ago.

From Metz, France, to Nuremberg, Germany, what a journey it’s been! Thank you for cheering on Team USA-3 🇺🇸. We may not have flown the farthest but we had a lot of fun — and it was great to be back in a gas balloon after all these years.

Our deepest gratitude to our incredible chase team, USA Command Center, and of course Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett for making this adventure possible.

Team USA-3 🇺🇸 landed south of Nuremberg after an incredible 32-hour adventure across France and Germany!

After more than 32 hours aloft, Team USA-3 🇺🇸 is preparing to land at sunrise just south of Nuremberg — having covered nearly 240 mi/385 km across France and Germany.

Once safely down and reunited with their amazing chase crew, we’ll hear more from John & Jim. Until then, thank you for following along and for your encouraging messages — they’ve meant the world during this incredible journey!

As the sun sets on the first full day of the Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett, Team USA-3 🇺🇸 is just south of Waibstadt, Germany — heading east at about 8 mph/12.5 km/h.

At 5:30 am CDT, after just over 13 hours of flight — light and variable winds have Team USA-3 🇺🇸 (and all but two teams) still in French airspace.

After about six hours in flight, Team USA-3 🇺🇸 has tracked about 22 mi/36 km, and is headed East toward Germany and then possibly Austria. Enjoy some overnight sky shots from John and Jim’s POV.
