Wow, haven’t we been quiet recently!
Since returning back from our success at the Flyball Open World Cup 2022, we’ve been hard at work to continue and build upon those successes!
Here is a ‘little’ summary of what we have been up to over the last 5 nearly 6 weeks - and promise to do more regular posts moving forward 🐒
On the 5th June we returned outdoors for a impromptu training session, giving our FOWC squad time to catch their breath and re familiarise themselves to the green stuff under their paws, whilst building our new lineups in anticipation of the British Flyball Association indoor & outdoor championships 2022 🐾
On the 11th June we headed up to the infamous Drax Power Stations, hosted by our friends at FOCUS Flyball Teams, for our first attempt at qualifying for Crufts 2023 - unfortunately, this was to no avail. Pulling against the seasoned Crufts pros that are Brigg Muttley Crew, we unfortunately didn’t make it through. There was massive positives to be taken away nonetheless, with Kai making his final steps towards being in the A team! We’d like to extend a massive congratulations to Molten Magnets & Commandos Flyball Teams on qualifying 👏
Then we returned back to our first, sanctioned, British Flyball Association tournament at the Summer Tootfest on the 18th & 19th June. This was our first, ‘regular’ competition since Brookfield Farm on the 14th & 15th May 🤯. Following on from Kai’s successes at the Crufts qualifier the previous weekend, we decided it was time to take a punt and move him into the ‘A’ team alongside, Lottie, Buddy, Georgie & Godfrey. This team we felt had potential, but unfortunately struggled carrying 12” jump height, with Lottie pulling up lame & Godfrey deciding he didn’t want to play, it resulted in us going WFC. Not the outcome we wanted, but positives to be taken away and lessons learnt. Our second team, made up of Percy, Zorro, Pippa, Ged & Molly showed real promise in the mornings races… but unfortunately Molly clipped a jump, twinging herself as a consequence and had to be pulled from racing. Fortunately, the remaining 4 continued to race hard, giving us a respectable placing within the division. A massive thank you to Daisy for making the trip up to help us out, we would of been lost without you!
Then, on the 25th & 26th June we headed across to Thoresby Park for Rockin Flyball Teams first show! We’d like to extend upon the congratulations that have already been offered, well organised & relaxed, just what we needed! Putting out our 2 championship lineups, after having a rethink given the prior weekends problems, the 2 lineups show real promise. Consistency has always been Monkeys key to success, and we are slowly working our way back to those principles. However, we dare not announce the lineups, because knowing Martyn he’ll change them again before champs 😂🤦♂️
Finally, last weekend we headed down to Statfold hosted by Nuneaton Flyers for our 2nd attempt at qualifying for Crufts. Alas, again we was unfortunate with the draw, pulling the well oiled, awe inspiring team that is Lighting Strikes who sent us packing! A massive congratulations to yourselves & Watson’s Flyball Teams on qualifying, hopefully with 2 more attempts left we can join you there 👏
Sometimes, it’s easy to glamourise the less than ideal. Not everything has gone our way over the last 5 weeks, and that’s okay. We still take the best dogs home after every tournament. And truthfully, that’s all that matters.
Now we focus our attention on to next weekend, where Monty will be coming out of hibernation for the European Flyball Championships 2022!
Martyn, Louise, Elizabeth & Mia, being joined by our friends
- John & Cathie (Junkyard Dogs)
- Chris & Rebecca (Basset Allsorts)
- Ray (Fawkes)
Are taking two lineups over to the Czech Republic under the Monkeys name! We look forward to introducing these lineups on Monday, so stay tuned!
