When I completed my comprehensive Pilates certification through Polestar Pilates International- a 500-hour certification with a 2-day exam in Miami - I remember being told not to be "that teacher" who just sits at their studio and doesn't grow.
I love learning, so there was never any danger of that, but those words will never leave me. I immediately went on to get nationally certified through the National Pilates Certification Programrtification program and make sure to re-up that certification every two years.
This requires 16 CECs - being me, I always wind up doing WAY more. This time, it was nearly double the requirement. It's always interesting to see what skills I've worked on, and in the past year and a half, I've done a lot of different things to improve my skillset:
- I completed the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Exercise Recovery program
- I completed a certification in using the Spinefitter for general populations and for scoliosis
- I attended a one-day workshop with superstars Christy Idavoy and Shelly Power from Polestar Pilates in Germany
- I attended a three-day Movement Tour conference by Balanced Body in Montreal, Canada, to learn from some of the best people in the industry
- I spNational Pilates Certification Program National Pilates Certification Program reviewing what needs to be tested in the revised version of the certification exam
That's in addition to the teachers I seek out - often while traveling - to learn without actually earning CECs.
I already have so many plans of what else I want to do in the future, but for now, I'm delighted to share I've re-upped my national certification through the end of 2028 - a badge I continue to be proud of.
