6th Dan. Damn. 31 years of Luta Livre.
A lot of memories flooding back right now.
1995. A seminar room in a student dorm, some beat-up judo mats, and six sports science students who wanted to find out what that Brazilian had been doing at UFC 1. And somehow, we convinced Daniel to teach us.
Thousands of hours on the mat since then. A big cardboard box full of dusty trophies from the glory days. Two trips to Rio to train at the source. Dozens of MMA fights worked as a cornerman at the cage. Even more grappling tournaments coached from the sidelines. And somewhere along the way — a gym of my own. This journey is nowhere near its end.
Daniel — thank you for bringing this sport to Germany, thank you for your coaching, and thank you for giving me a life that simply wouldn’t have been possible without you.

6. Dan. Wow. 31 Jahre Luta Livre.
Da kommen viele Erinnerungen hoch. Wie wir damals 1995 damit angefangen haben. Wie wir Daniel überreden konnten, uns zu unterrichten. Ein Seminarraum im Studentenwohnheim, ein paar alte Judomatten und sechs Sportstudenten, die wissen wollten, was dieser Brasilianer da gemacht hat, bei UFC1. Tausende Stunden Mattenzeit, ein großer Karton voller verstaubter Pokale aus glorreichen Zeiten, zwei Mal in Rio zum Training gewesen und irgendwann ein eigenes Gym eröffnet. Bei dutzenden MMA-Kämpfen als Trainer am Cage gewesen und bei noch viel mehr Grappling-Turnieren gecoacht. Eine lange Reise, die noch längst nicht zu Ende ist. Vielen Dank, Daniel, dass du den Sport nach Deutschland gebracht hast, danke für deinen Unterricht und danke für das Leben, das ich ohne dich so nicht hätte führen können.
