The training goal: carrying 24kg up and down and mountain for a total of 90min with 450m elevation gain without dropping it once - balancing over roots, slippery rocks, across a stream, underneath trees and through mud. Need a scenario as to why? Maybe a toddler who got injured or lost consciousness that needs to be brought to the first responders. Something along those lines. I’ve seen too many adults being incapable of functioning under exhaustion. Practice is the only way to build that skill, really. Keep going!

I usually place a section called conditioning at the very end of a patient’s trainings program. Handling movement under exhaustion is the name of a the game here. This can be round based or timed. For this to work properly we have to find a practice that is low on the injury risk scale as working to exhaustion compromises your technique for sure. Something safe to perform yet tackles the right areas.

I could’ve shown you this exact drill from before I put too much load on my right shoulder but where’s the fun in that. At least now it’s more relatable. You very often detect asymmetries in full range movements. As you see clearly, I struggle extending my right elbow when the arm is lifted to the active limit due to various shoulder blade related muscles holding on tight. If you detect similar things on yourself: move it slowly and a fu***ng lot, breathe and relax as much as possible in the rest of your body. Extra good breathing and extra controlled movement on the limited side. Simple.

Patients sometimes wonder why I rarely offer slots before 9 in the morning. Cause I got s**t to do: getting up, water, toilet, 25min mobility, coffee and then we can talk. It’s the daily standards you set for yourself that keep you ahead, keep you sane and pain free. 💁🏼‍♂️

Almost all of our patients who enter the last phase of rehab programming, commonly known as “back to sports”, get exposed to jumps and hops. In this phase you can hardly distinguish a patient doing rehab from an athlete getting reading for the next competition. And that is by design. In this clip you see me performing kinetic jumps (100cm height/80cm length) with a leading and a supporting leg with a deep landing (knee angle around 90°). Here I practiced 80 jumps / each side in 35min.

👉🏼 Swipe for some details. Following up on yesterday’s story, I’m excited to share that we’re actually leading this trend in 2025 by example…well and by choice. More than every second person has consulted us for pain and injury prevention. My last stats on this matter were from Q2 2020 and I only remember it because it was quite depressing back then to almost entirely see patients after an injury or disease. Back then only 12% were consulting us for preventive reasons. I’m happy for this drastic improvement. Now, take those numbers with a grain of salt as we only work with private health insurances and pocket payers. Public health insurances restrict you far more but slowly and steadily even they have spent more on health prevention than ever before (still very little).

The hard part is not to get healthier and fitter, the hard part is to maintain that level despite all challenges and ups and downs. It’s not about beating records nor about beating yourself as it’s often displayed on social media, it’s simply about caring for yourself and therefore showing up every day. Thank you for more than 10 years working with me and trusting in the process 💪🏼😘

I hardly ever look back, but when it comes to books and considering that it took me more than 5 years researching, writing, designing, editing, filming and partnering to finish those 2 books, I’m proud and relieved and the same time. My latest book has just been released. “Der Gesunde Athlet - Training mit der Kettlebell” deep dives into the matter on physical training, attempts to make you understand your own biomechanics and helps you perform well and pain free. We analyzed scientific literature around centenarians and longevity as a whole and attempted to come up with a road map that may lead you towards a long lasting and functional body.

Thanks to everyone involved in the process. And a special thanks to my patients who shaped me beyond belief. ❤️💪🏼
