♟️ The European Youth Team Chess Championship has begun!
As part of the Czech Open festival in Pardubice, the championship was officially opened by the Vice President of the European Chess Union, Roman Mužík. The ceremonial first move was made on the board of Peter Balint, who competed at PICF in the Futures tournament in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

We wish all participants many great games and the best of luck to the Czech national teams! 🇨🇿💪

♟️ Mistrovství Evropy juniorských týmů v šachu odstartovalo!
V rámci festivalu Czech Open v Pardubicích slavnostně zahájil evropský šampionát viceprezident Evropské šachové unie Roman Mužík. Úvodního tahu se ujal na šachovnici Petera Balinta, který se PICF zúčastnil v letech 2021, 2022 a 2023 v kategorii Futures.

Přejeme všem účastníkům mnoho povedených partií a českým reprezentantům hodně štěstí! 🇨🇿💪

Congratulations to Václav Finěk! 🇨🇿♟️ The Czech super talent and winner of this year's Challengers tournament at the Prague International Chess Festival has added another major milestone to his growing career. 💪 Despite a strong field of competitors, Finěk emerged victorious at the Generations Challenge tournament in Biel.

🇨🇿 Gratulace Václavu Fiňkovi! Český supertalent a vítěz letošního turnaje Challengers na PICF si připsal další důležité prvenství své kariéry. 💪 I přes nabitou konkurenci Finěk ovládl turnaj Generations Challenge v Bielu.

📱 343 players and 153 fans in one network: that's how many unique users downloaded our PICF pass directly to their Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

Ján Plachetka has left us. ♟️🕯️ A remarkable figure of Czechoslovak and Slovak chess, and a great friend of our festival, is gone. Ján Plachetka was not only an outstanding chess player, but also a humble and kind-hearted person.

He visited the Prague Chess Festival several times, and it was always an honor to meet him. In 2021, he also shared heartfelt memories of his friend Luboš Kaválek, whose legacy was very close to his heart.

We will remember not only his chess achievements, but above all his humanity, kindness, and warm relationship with the people around the game.

May he rest in peace.

🇨🇿 Opustil nás Ján Plachetka. ♟️🕯️ Odešla mimořádná osobnost československého a slovenského šachu a také velký přítel našeho festivalu. Ján Plachetka byl skvělým šachistou i skromným a pokorným člověkem.

Pražský šachový festival několikrát navštívil a vždy bylo ctí se s ním setkat. V roce 2021 také krásně zavzpomínal na svého přítele Luboše Kaválka, jehož odkaz mu byl velmi blízký.

Budeme vzpomínat nejen na jeho šachové úspěchy, ale především na jeho lidskost, laskavost a vztah k lidem kolem šachu.

Čest jeho památce.

Our Challengers winner Václav Finěk has secured his final norm and earned the Grandmaster title, becoming the second youngest Czech player in history to achieve it. Huge congratulations. We’re so happy for you! ♟️👏

🇨🇿 Vítěz letošních Challengers Václav Finěk získal svou poslední normu a stal se velmistrem, čímž se zapisuje do historie jako druhý nejmladší český hráč, kterému se to podařilo. Obrovská gratulace, máme velkou radost! ♟️👏

🔝 "It always feels like a second home." The Challengers nomination for the winner of the Karel Janeček Open tournament went to the legendary Sasikiran Krishnan. The fifth Indian grandmaster in history lost a mere point and he will compete at the main stage in 2027. 👏

🇨🇿 „Vždycky to tu působí jako druhý domov.“ Nominaci do turnaje Challengers získal vítěz turnaje Karel Janeček Open, legendární Krishnan Sasikiran. Pátý indický velmistr v historii ztratil pouze jeden bod a v roce 2027 si zahraje na hlavní scéně. 👏

👱‍♀️ 🫶 “She helped me win this tournament!” Send some love for our Futures winner Kaja Rzadkowska, who also praised her sister Lila for her contribution on the final day of the festival. Congratulations again!
