100 BIRTHDAYS FOR AGNES! 🎉🙌
On Sat 9 January, the legendary Hungarian Jewish gymnast Agnes Keleti turns 100 years young! On behalf of Maccabi Europe, we wish her a hearty mazel tov, a very happy birthday and many more!

Keleti won a total of 10 Olympic medals, including five gold, and is considered one of the most successful Jewish athletes of all time. She won six medals at the 1956 Olympics at the age of 35, becoming the oldest female gymnast to win gold. She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2002.
Agnes survived the Holocaust by posing as a Christian maid in the Hungarian countryside. Her father and uncle perished at Auschwitz, while her mother and sister were saved by Raoul Wallenberg and she was reunited with them after the war. She emigrated to Israel in 1957 and is credited with founding the national team whom she coached into the 1990's. She returned to live in Hungary in 2015.
