When a argues, ignores requests, rolls their eyes, or immediately says “no,” it’s easy to assume they’re being disrespectful or difficult.
But often, resistance isn’t about the request itself.
It’s about protecting their growing sense of autonomy.
The more a feels controlled, pressured, or managed, the stronger the resistance can become.
What helps?
Instead of pushing harder, try preserving the relationship while holding the boundary.
Rather than:
“Because I said so.”
Try:
“I know this isn’t what you want right now, and this still needs to happen.”
Teenagers are far more likely to cooperate when they feel respected, understood, and connected.
Connection doesn’t remove boundaries.
It makes boundaries easier to accept.

Rezistence je jedno z nejvíce nepochopených chování u teenagerů.
Když teenager odmlouvá, ignoruje naše požadavky, protáčí oči nebo automaticky říká „ne“, snadno si to vyložíme jako neúctu nebo vzdor.
Často ale nejde o samotný požadavek.
Jde o ochranu jejich rostoucí potřeby autonomie.
Čím více se teenager cítí kontrolovaný, tlačený nebo řízený, tím silnější může být jeho odpor.
Co pomáhá?
Místo většího tlaku zkuste zachovat vztah a zároveň držet hranici.
Místo:
“Protože jsem to řekl/a.”
Zkuste:
“Vím, že se ti to teď nelíbí, a přesto je potřeba to udělat.”
Teenageři mnohem snáze spolupracují, když se cítí respektovaní, pochopení a propojení.
Propojení neznamená méně hranic.
Znamená větší šanci, že budou přijaty.
