Ladies League - 22nd March 2026 - Report from Mark B

A great team performance today from the Lionesses showing disciplined shape, composure on the ball and creating lots of opportunities on goal.

Results.
Vs Akamas: 0-0 draw, but we dominated with lots of on target efforts.
Vs West Coast: 2-0 loss. A penalty and a deflection was the difference here but we played well.
vs Aphrodite's: A 2 -0 victory for Polis! We dominated throughout with goals from Rosa and a cracker from Ali.

Well done, very proud. We've now moved into 2nd place in the league, 1 point ahead of AW.

Polis & Latchi Lions get to play at Wembley!

A group of 14 Lions and Lionesses made the trip to Ayia Napa for a weekend of Walking Football on the 20th-22nd February played out at the Wembley Park Cyprus Centre with matches played over the Saturday and Sunday.

The whole weekend was about Fun, Friendship and Football and it was certainly that.

Starting on the Friday night with all the Polis team enjoying some great food, drinks and good company in Ayia Napa.

Saturday was match day. The format for the football was a round robin League with matches played out under the glorious Cyprus sunshine.

With matches against Wembley Xylofagou Men, Pyla Predators Men, Polis & Latchi Men and a mixed team of Polis Lion’s and Lionesses team. All of the matches were competitive and of a high standard with no quarter given.

It was great to see all of the Polis and Latchi players playing some very good football and being played in the right spirit. Especially the Polis Men’s verses the Polis mixed team the where no quarter given from either team.

After all of the matches on the Saturday it was down to a night of good company, food, drinks and entertainment at the match venue Wembley Park Centre and good night was had by all before then heading back to Ayia Napa where a number of Lions and Lionesses carried on the fun and friendship in a local bar till the early hours.

It was up early on the Sunday morning for a hearty breakfast back at the Wembley Park Centre before having a few fun mixed footy games and then heading back home (tired and weary) to Polis and the surrounding areas.

It definitely was a weekend of Fun, Friendship and Football.

A very hot morning for walking football didn't put off both teams as the Polis & Latchi Lionesses travelled to Fair Game to play West Coast in a couple of friendly games.

Some superb football played at a very high level of skill & great shape from the Lionesses saw both games end 0-0.

Well done everyone and thank you West Coast for your hospitality and the super breakfast provided by Olivers in Tala rounded off a superb morning for all. Bring on the league starting mid September.

Yesterday we braved the heat and played a couple of friendly games against the Cyprus Representational squad at Fair Game in Tremithousa as part of their preparation for the Walking Football World Cup being held in Torrevieja, Spain during October.

Despite narrowly losing both games (2-0 and 1-0), we gave the Cyprus players a good test despite not having our key player and birthday boy Mark P available (as he is part of the Cyprus squad). We were very happy with our performance though, retaining our shape and passing well throughout. Seems like our hard work during training is paying off!

Big thanks to Scott from Akamas for guesting, enabling us to rotate the small squad in the oppressive heat.

Best of luck to Cyprus in October.

Thank you so much to the West Coast Ladies Walking football team, for making the effort to come and play at Polis against our Lionesses today.

A very enjoyable morning and a great display of walking football today in very hot & sticky conditions.
Three games played superbly in these conditions really was a great showcase of how club ladies walking football is developing in Cyprus with both teams turning out some superb football.
Results:
1st game, 0-2, 2nd game 0-0, 3rd game 0-1

All played in a great spirit and rounded off afterwards with a great breakfast laid on by our venue at Propylaia Sports centre.
Well done to all and thanks to Mark F for refereeing so well.

A big welcome back to our friends from Thames Walking Football who visited us last night and treated us to an exhibition of excellent and skillful football. Our Lionesses fared a little better than our Lions, but we all enjoyed the night of both football and of course, the excellent post-match fare provided by Proplylaia.
Onwards to a round robin mini-tournament at Alana on Saturday with Thames and Aphrodite Wanderers.
