The Military call it Tabbing ( Tactical Advance to Battle) Civilians call it rucking. If you don't carry weight it's simply getting your steps in... but by adding weight you can treble calories burned. On the walk around the coast yesterday I carried a berghaus with weight plus 6 litres of water including BCAAs and Electrolytes.
Rucking is a lower impact exercise than running. While rucking, you'll always have one foot on the ground (unlike running). Because of this, the impact on each foot is lighter and less stressful for your joints.
Rucking builds muscle. The additional weight carried while rucking builds muscle and strengthens your legs, core, shoulders, and back. Rucking Builds Muscle in Your Legs.
