GI vs NO-GI: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Same sport, different style of training.

🥋Gi is practiced in the traditional kimono, where grips on the jacket and trousers become an important part of the technique.

🤼‍♂️No-Gi is trained in a rashguard and shorts, with no clothing grips, making the game generally faster and more focused on movement and body control.

Both develop technique, strategy and adaptability — and both are an important part of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Welcome to the team, coach Alevtina! 💜🥋

This September, we’re welcoming a new coach to the Checkmat team!

Alevtina is a BJJ brown belt, active competitor and sports psychologist with 8 years of experience in sports and 4 years of coaching.

Her achievements include becoming an IBJJF European Champion and IBJJF Asian Champion, as well as winning multiple medals at international AJP and ACB tournaments 🏆

Alevtina works with children and adults, combining technical training with an individual and supportive approach. Her focus goes beyond BJJ skills, helping students build confidence, resilience and a positive relationship with sport.

We’re excited to have Alevtina joining our team and can’t wait for you to meet her on the mats! 💜
