Announcement

Due to the close proximity of the adult world championships in Autumn and the likely European championships in early spring, we have decided to skip the World Championships in Georgia and put all our resources in to the Euros. Last year we took a strong team to Georgia and exhausted all our resources, leaving only one athlete available for Euros.

The aim is to take the strongest team ever to the European championships and maximise our chances of winning as many medals as possible. Europeans are also more cost effective and we have more time to solidify a team and fundraise in preparation.

However, if there are individual athletes who would still like to attend the Worlds in Georgia. If you have a positive record, meet the required standard for an international athlete, and can arrange to be accompanied by an MMA Cymru recognised coach, we will support you administratively.

Wales’ top ranked amateur athletes will be invited to monthly squad sessions at various gyms across Wales and a team will be selected from the best and most dedicated athletes. Squad session attendance will be mandatory for selections

Ava Tyrie adds a world silver to her two world bronze medals, and her two golds from consecutive European championships. No athlete has achieved more in a Cymru uniform. The GOAT of youth MMA in Wales. And at only 15 she has many years in the game to extend her legacy.

From 6 athletes we had two medalists. One of the smallest teams by population and competitors, but Wales has always punched above our weight. Gabriel Morgan has been added to the MMA Cymru honour list. He joins an exclusive list of legendary bronze medalists who’ve came before him, which include Scott Pedersen, Alex Aston & Morgan Rees to name a few. At only 11 years old, this will be the first of many.

5 down, one to go….but Kadyn doesn’t fight until day 7 on Sunday. As the younger athletes have already returned home, the remaining athletes can unwind and explore the sights and sounds of Abu Dhabi, while also helping Kadyn prepare to put the Youth A Super-Welterweight division on notice ready for Sunday.

For now let’s appreciate a great group of ambassadors for Wales, who wear their heart on their sleeves. We are Cymru. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

This was high paced back and forth contest in the final, with Ava locking in the armbar in the last ten seconds. But her opponent was saved by the bell. It went to the scorecards and they gave it to the Ukrainian athlete by the narrowest of split decisions. Ava adds a silver medal to her two European golds and two world bronze medals, she is our most successful athlete of all time, the Welsh goat of Youth MMA.
