September always cracks something open in me.

This past year handed me endings I didn’t ask for, goodbyes I wasn’t ready for, and curveballs I never saw coming. It also opened doors I couldn’t have imagined walking through, and manifested dreams I had reserved for the “one day and some days.”

One of those doors is ORA Costa Rica . What started as a dream has now become a family project that is about to enter the world this November! Watching something this personal become real is its own kind of new beginning.

Now that Pathways to Self is launched in the world, as always, my multi-passionate nature has it that many new fun things are under way… Exciting clients with houseofimpactworld, continued hypnosis work alongside a Masters then PhD in the Philosophy of Conscious Living, and soon, an opportunity to meet me here at ORA Costa Rica, in person, once at the beginning of December and again at the beginning of February. (Comment RETREAT and I’ll add you to the list to be the first to know)!

It looks like a lot from the outside. From where I stand, it all somehow fits together.

I’ll keep showing up on this platform, somewhat resistant but consistent, because of what it’s given me: real connection with so many of you from around the world!

In the meantime, please stay in touch and let me know what’s unfolding on your side of the world, and how I can support it.

With love,

xoxo

Dana

Yesterday, I found out that Pathways to Self became an international bestseller. I’m in awe and I’m exploding with gratitude!

But if I’m honest, this milestone was never really the point. I have learned this the hard way over the years and I talk about it in detail in the book. Because it’s not about what we achieve (turns out I’m still the same person today that I was yesterday lol) but more about who we become in the process.

Reaching this milestone has me thinking
about everything the process gave me: the commitment, the vulnerability, the not-knowing where it will go, the deep reflections and the heart cracking open a little more with every draft.

One of my favourite quotes is that we can’t connect the dots looking forward. Only looking back. And today, looking back, every part of it finally makes sense.

Maybe that’s the real gift of any goal: not the arrival, but who we become getting there.

So thank you from the bottom of my heart. For being in my life, in my community, and alongside me as we try to leave this world a little bit of a better place one intention and action at a time.

Xoxo

It’s a big week. Birthday week. Retreat center launch week. Book publishing week. One more week. One more newsletter. One more birthday.

This Friday, on my birthday, I’m sharing the ninth and final newsletter of the series: Chapter 9, Self-Realization. When I started this series I had no idea the ninth one would land on my 44th birthday, four days before the official launch. I love how the universe works 🥰

Here’s what to expect from me this week:
On Friday’s newsletter, I’ll be sharing exciting new retreat dates! This is your last chance to comment “book” and get added to that list 🙏❤️

Next Tuesday, August 18, is book launch day!

The only birthday gift I’m asking for? Buy my book on the 18th. Share it, read it, and tell me as you go. My hope for this book is that it connects us all — because although your path to purpose may look different from mine, it’s the same human experience of living. Mark your calendars and save the date. 📖✨

And there’s more: everyone who buys the book on launch day and/or shares it on social media will be entered to win a retreat with me here in Costa Rica all expenses paid (except flight and extras). Are you with me?!

I am blown away by the love and support gathering around me and this launch — people I haven’t talked to in years, friends of friends, and the incredible family and friends who continue to love me through every part of this earth school. It is humbling to the core and I am forever grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 🙏

If I could go back, I’d tell her exactly how this all turns out. But I couldn’t. She had to live it, one set back, one hard lesson, one uncertain yes at a time.

In this week’s Friday newsletter I’m talking all about connecting the dots looking backwards and the connection to Self-Love which is the theme of Chapter 7 of Pathways to Self ❤️

I’m also be sharing more about some EXCITING NEWS that i’ve been alluding to over the last few weeks. HARD LAUNCH coming very very soon 😉

I can’t believe we are under three weeks away from book release day on August 18th! The book will be available on Amazon in the USA, UK, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Japan, Canada, and Australia followed by 39,000 retailers! It is still blowing my mind a little bit, not gonna lie :) Grateful to share in this process with all of you!

This is not the story I thought I would tell.

We’re a month out from launch, and I’m already deep in the vulnerability hangover — that particular dread that shows up right before the thing you’ve spent four years creating becomes public. Every scene I relived to write this book is about to be someone else’s to read.

One of my favorite quotes while writing this book was: write from the scar, not the wound.

A wound is still open. It bleeds onto the page and asks whoever’s reading it to hold something that isn’t finished being felt yet.

A scar is different. It means the story has closed enough that you can actually look at it without it splitting back open. That’s the only reason I can share any of this without drowning in the hangover — these are scars now, not open wounds.

And sharing them at all is its own kind of self-expression, which is funny, considering how long I had the word wrong.

I always thought self-expression was loud. It wasn’t. I thought it was creative — an art piece, a song, something meant to be witnessed. It was so much more than that. I thought it was arrogant, that saying a true thing out loud made you a little full of yourself.

I didn’t actually learn what self-expression was until I found myself somewhere I couldn’t say a single word.

Ten days of meditation. No talking, no writing, no exercise, no reading, no journaling, not even eating past midday.

That’s exactly where I learned what self-expression really is — and it’s the whole story I’m telling on this week’s blog, based on Chapter 6: Self-Expression.

Thank you as always for following along!

Comment ‘BOOK’ to be added to the list.

“You’re so selfish.”

It was the most hurtful thing she could have said.

We had been friends for years but things in me had started to shift as of late. I was tired in a way I couldn’t explain. Worn out. The things that used to energize me weren’t doing it anymore. No amount of discipline or routine was helping me reignite my spark. I didn’t have a name for it yet. I didn’t know it was burnout. All I knew was something was off.

And in my quiet — in the most shutdown version of myself I had ever been — those were her words. And they hurt deeply.

Around the same time I found myself on the table of a Chinese medicine doctor. She worked with my energy in silence, and when the session ended she sat beside me and said something I’ve never forgotten.

“You have no idea how to be.”

I laughed and then pondered it more deeply… How do I actually just be???
She shared more: “Feel the weight of your body. Notice where your feet meet the ground. Let your eyes soften. Listen to what’s around you — the near sounds and the far ones. Let yourself be in what’s here, right now.”

It sounded so simple. It was not.

I had spent so long in doing mode — giving, producing, showing up, pouring out — that stillness felt almost wrong. I had spent my whole life giving so much that I didn’t even know how to receive or how to give to myself. So much so that when I couldn’t give any more, the role I played in relationships shifted. And when I couldn’t meet the expectations of others, to them it almost felt like betrayal.

I understood where she was coming from. But that didn’t make it right. It was then that I realized the age-old phrase: the only people who have an issue with our boundaries are the ones we need them with in the first place. That’s where everything started to change.

So I practiced. I anchored in the present moment. I paid attention to my senses. I started to give to myself first and put on my own oxygen mask, and as I did, something started to shift.

It was somewhere in that shift that the meaning of the word selfish transformed and I stopped needing to defend myself. Now if someone were to call me that, I’d smile and say thanks. Because learning to reclaim my self-ish

The worst advice I ever got…

A mentor once told me that if I wanted to be successful I needed to focus and to rein in my multi-passionate nature.

I didn’t.

I understood why: On paper, my professional path looked scattered.. Event producer. Charity founder. Brand Ambassador. Sales Mentor. Clinical Hypnotherapist. Transformation Coach. Retreat host. Philanthropist. Legacy Architect. And now, something exciting in Costa Rica.

Every single one looked like a detour. Every single one was a breadcrumb.
Each one had seasons where nothing seemed to be moving. Where results were invisible and I couldn’t see where any of it was going. Where I had to keep showing up anyway — not because I had proof it was working, but because something in me knew it was.

That’s when I learned what discipline actually is.

Not hundred-hour weeks. Not running on adrenaline. Just the small things, done quietly, long after the excitement wore off. Consistent, not constant.

The awards came. The milestones came. Things I once only dreamed of.
But none of that is what changed my life.

Who I became in the process of cultivating discipline did.

That same discipline is now building something in Costa Rica — something I’ve been dreaming of for years. My newsletter community has been getting the inside story for the last two weeks...
If you’re not on the list yet, there’s still time to catch up — the first three newsletters are live at danashalit.com/blog.

Under 7 weeks until launch day. Comment BOOK and come along for the ride. 🎉

So much has been brewing in my life and work expression over the last few years and, as I was letting it all unfold, I happily became quieter, more insular, and introverted.

As I prepare to share my book, Pathways to Self, with the world this August (8.18), I realized it was time for a little update as so many of you don’t even know what I do anymore, or that I wrote a book lol!

Because some of you may know me from school or my days as a charity director producing galas and fundraisers in Toronto…
Some from my years as a global brand ambassador, wellness consultant, sales mentor and speaker...
And some of you know me as a coach and hypnotherapist as I guided hundreds of you deep into the subconscious to release the residue of self limiting beliefs.

Now, as co-founder of I have the honour of supporting athletes, families and visionary organizations in values aligned philanthropic strategy (we actually just launched our new website and brand which I included in this post - I invite you to check it out! www.houseofimpact.world)

I’ve moved through a lot of different expressions of my work over the years, all of which I’m deeply grateful for. But all of them had one thing in common: IMPACT is my Purpose.

I plan on being a little more social in the coming months and I hope you tag along!

Book launch, podcasts, speaking opps and inspiring global impact updates… and maybe, maybe even some chances to visit me in Costa Rica! I hope you stay connected and don’t be shy to reach out! Because the best part about these platforms is the ability to follow each other along this life journey ❤️

Jungle life lately in this very special animal kingdom 🐶🐱🐐🐴

I’ve been holding all the contrast, the grief with so much gratitude…
I’m so grateful for all the tools I’ve cultivated over the years, this magical land of Costa Rica and the beautiful relationships that continue to support me through it all. And especially the animals. I’m so grateful for the animals.

And as much as I’ve been riding life’s waves, I know it’s going to be an amazing year ahead… My book is launching, some new exciting business adventures will be shared, and I’m leaving room for all the goodness that is coming that isn’t even on my radar screen as of yet…

One thing is for sure - after a few years of staying pretty quiet in this space, there is now going to be more reasons to get a little louder… so if you’ve been out of touch for a while this is my invitation to reconnect.

❤️❤️❤️
