So yesterday I told a little lie. That bike in the picture was the oldest Harley in my stable, but not the oldest motorcycle in my stable. This is the oldest motorcycle in my stable. It's a first generation Kawasaki KL600. In it's time it was the biggest, baddest, dualsport motorcycle in the world! Things have changed a lot in the last 40 years. The 2026 model weighs in at a 100 plus pounds more, has hard bags, all the bells and whistles but..... since it weighs 500 lbs and the 86 model only weighed 385lbs the older one that I have is very nimble and agile. Today thinking once again I have the body and reflexs of a 18 year old, I hopped on it fired it up and got ready to go for a little spin in the fields. As you can see from the pics, I built a long driveway on the property a couple of years ago. The construction guys came in and plowed me a flat road, compacted it and then covered it with gravel and compacted it again. I told them that I had motorcycles and wanted just enough gravel to cover the dirt so when the compacter rolled over it it would push the gravel into the dirt and leave me with a nice hard surface. No doubt understanding me may have been a little difficult or they just didn't give a s**t about what I said and I'm leaning very heavily in that direction. They started work and when finished proudly called me out to see what they had done! I now have a driveway with about three inches of gravel from front to back which is absolutely s**tty if you ride a 1000 pound Harley or any motorcycle for that matter. Your tires slide around and when you put the foot stand down the bike leans perilously over and you hope it doesn't fall or as was the case today, At that speed where you want to put your foot down and walk the bike around a corner but you are going just fast enough to say "F**k it! I've got this" and the front wheel digs into a soft spot and simply stops! F**K! The bike stops but... I do not! Slamed my balls into the gastank and slowly tipped over. MOTHER F**KER!! It's only a 385 pound bike but I am 64 years old and I do not possess the strength to hold up 385 pounds when its says The laws of gravity say NA Na Na Na NAHHHHH! so SLOWLY over I go and the bike lands on top of me. I think I'm ok but my knee is doing this funny tweaking thing, My left arm is pretty sore, and there's a little skin out there in the parking lot! My pride is hurt but nobody saw it! Haa Haa Haa! I didn't break anything or bend anything because the bike landed on a big soft pillow! ME! I kinda crawled out from under it, stood it up and took it for a more sedate ride than I had planned and parked it for the night. I fu***ng hate those driveway guys! I now have spots on the driveway like in front of the gate and by the garage where I have just dumped bags of quik crete on the driveway and watered it down so I have a safe place to put down my kickstand but I still have to be careful pulling in and out because of all the extra gravel they put down!
