A complex movement created by 3 joints that surround our shoulders.

Our scapulas (leaded by our ramboid muscles), our shoulders (leaded by the latissimus dorsi muscles) and our elbow (leaded by our bracho-radialis or our biceps depending on the angle of the palms of our hands- supinated or pronated).

Years of teaching pullups proved to me a huge gap in the ability to perform pullups between the majority of men and some women, to a point that I was interested in understanding why the differences are so big.
a) Testosterone- found higher in male bodies helps men build muscle mass faster than females (its not that females cant create the same strength as the majority of men can, it usually just takes some more work)
b) Body Structure- The male structure of the Lats (latisimus dorsi) can be seen better on gorillas, the size and body structure as a starting point- most men are born with larger lats. (again, most men!- some women can have a similar structure as well)
c) Culture- I found that the culture in Israel dictated that the boys would work on strength movements and the girls would usually perform dance movements during physical training classes in school. Maturing, this made me mad because it shouldn't be like that. That means that boys would usually work more on pullups than the girls which gave them a better head start
The only way to improve in pullups is quantity, meaning you have to perform many reps in order to get stronger. We teach many ways to get stronger, many variations of scaled down options and we definitely wish to see all our strong women succeed to be able to perform pullups

Talking about pullups always brings out the "feminist" side of me, especially during days like this, with the cancelation of the law that allows abortion in the US.

I absolutely love this movement, mostly because I hate it so much 😜

Buckle up! We are about to go on a ride together.
Guess what?! You don't lose weight in the gym. Ill repeat that- You Don't Lose Weight In The Gym!
How do you lose weight?- *Calorie deficit*- that means that your calorie income (what you eat and drink all day) is lower than the calories your body spends a day.
You wake up in the morning brush your teeth get dressed= that made your body use calories
You work, any work= your body is using calories
You breathe= your body is using calories
You walk= calories
You have sex= calories
You workout= calories
I think you get the point...
And then you consume calories. Everything you eat or drink during the day is built out of calories.
*The only way to lose weight is to eat and drink less than the calories you've spent*
No shortcuts, no ways around this, no possibility that this is wrong, this is the only way to lose weight, PERIOD

Now, exercise is amazing for your body, it does tons of things that improve or preserve you health, so that's important too, don't read this and think that all you need is a calorie deficit to be healthy, its not enough- you need to exercise.

The best combination to lose weight is Strength workouts combined with calorie deficit. The reason is that when you lose weight, you lose both muscle mass and fat mass. The muscle mass we want and need, the extra fat is usually unnecessary.

What calories you consume is also very important, you should be eating protein, carbs and fat. Certified Nutritionists know how to calculate your daily calorie need, they went to school for 4 years for that- don't read an article about "how to lose weight with eating only cucumbers for 8 days" and think you are experts.

Technique first!
Before everything! That's the basis of training for anything that is physical. Know how to lift, learn to hold your back properly, understand the movement and the requirements to perform it correctly, ask questions, work slow and teach your body to feel comfortable with whatever it's doing.
Once you feel confident, let's add weight and get stronger.

When you feel strong enough let's build intensity (different post that I wrote about intensity, it is proven to improve your fitness level)

The equation is simple
Technique➡️Strength➡️ Intensity ➡️

We put a lot of emphasis on your technique and we definitely won't let you lift heavy if it's not good enough.
