[EN] Sometimes you don’t need to cross a country or spend months away from home to travel far. Sometimes, the world hides magical places just around the corner. All it takes is a restless, curious spirit to feel that everything is new, different, surprising.

Our 4-day journey through the humid, rugged mountain ranges between Boyacá and Santander was just like that. We connected the valley of Villa de Leyva with Florián through steep, remote trails - challenging climbs, intense heat, and heart rates pounding from the effort.

It was our first multi-day trip after 14 months of pedaling through the southern part of the continent, and we never imagined that the feeling of adventure, remoteness, and discovery -so close to our new home- could feel so intense, so alive.

We love doing this. We love being together, finding rebellious paths that carve their way through wild nature.

[ES] A veces no hace falta cruzar un país o pasar meses lejos de casa para viajar lejos. A veces, el mundo esconde lugares mágicos justo a la vuelta de la esquina. Solo se necesita un espíritu inquieto y viajero para sentir que todo es nuevo, distinto, sorprendente.

Así fue nuestro viaje de 4 días por las cordilleras húmedas y escarpadas entre Boyacá y Santander. Conectamos el Valle de Villa de Leyva con Florián por trochas solitarias y empinadas, llenas de técnica, calor y pulsos altos.

Era nuestro primer viaje después de 14 meses pedaleando por el sur del continente, y nunca imaginamos que la sensación de aventura, lejanía y descubrimiento pudiera ser tan intensa, tan viva.

Nos encanta esto, nos encanta estar juntos, descubriendo caminos rebeldes que se abren en medio de la naturaleza.

[EN] After a 14-month journey across the most remote corners of the Andes, we’re back home - starting over, looking ahead, and dreaming of big projects.

The plan is on track. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful, diverse country, full of trails, breathtaking landscapes, and kind people - a paradise for those of us who love adventure cycling.

We’re happy to be exploring Colombia as Ibex amabassadors.

[ES] Después de un viaje de 14 meses por los rincones más remotos de la Cordillera de los Andes, estamos de nuevo en casa; volviendo a empezar, mirando hacia adelante y soñando con grandes proyectos.

El plan está en marcha. Tenemos la fortuna de vivir en un país hermoso, diverso, lleno de trochas, de paisajes exuberantes y de gente amable; un paraíso para quienes nos gusta el ciclismo de aventura.

Estamos felices de explorar Colombia como embajadores de Ibex.

[ES] Después de estos 14 meses de viaje por los rincones más bonitos de la Cordillera de Los Andes, por supuesto que hemos cumplido sueños; pero sobretodo, hicimos realidad un proyecto en el cual pusimos mucha fe y trabajo.

Estas son las últimas imágenes del viaje: el Huascarán y la Cordillera Blanca del Perú. Un lugar que ahora alimenta nuestras ilusiones y proyectos del futuro: seguiremos .

Gracias a todos los que nos acompañaron e hicieron parte de este gran viaje.

[EN] After 14 months of traveling through the most beautiful corners of the Cordillera de Los Andes, of course we have fulfilled dreams; but above all, we completed a project in which we placed a lot of faith and effort.

These are the last photographs from our trip: the Huascarán and Peru’s Cordillera Blanca. A place that now feeds our hopes and projects for the future: we will continue riding the Andes.

Thanks to everyone who accompanied us and made part of this great adventure.

[ES] La Perú Great Divide es una ruta consistente, dura, alta, diversa en terrenos y paisajes, muchas veces muy solitaria y remota; una clasiquísima del “dirt touring”.

Los últimos días no fueron la excepción y las goteras de la Cordillera Blanca nos llevaron por montañas gélidas y escarpadas con hermosas vistas de Los Andes. A diferencia del resto del camino, esta vez hubo sentimientos encontrados; por un lado la felicidad de coronar esta ruta, pero por otro, la nostalgia de que este gran viaje llegue a su fin.

Después de 1.450 km y 40 días de viaje sobre la Peru Divide llegamos a Huaraz, la capital de Ancash y el epicentro de las actividades de montaña en la Cordillera Blanca.

[EN] The Peru Great Divide is a consistent route, hard, high, diverse in terrain and landscapes, often very lonely and remote; a classic dirt touring route.

The last few days were not the exception, the outskirts of the Cordillera Blanca took us through icy and steep mountains with beautiful views of the Andes. Unlike the rest of our journey, this time we had mixed emotions: on one hand the happiness of completing this great route, but in the other hand nostalgia that this adventure was coming to and end.

After 1,450 km and 40 days of riding along the Peru Divide, we arrived in Huaraz; the capital of Ancash and the epicenter of the activities in the Cordillera Blanca.

[ES] El Paso Raura, uno de los lugares más escénicos de la Perú Divide; las goteras de la Cordillera Blanca.

Pero hay sentimientos encontrados. Cuesta entender que en la mitad de ese lugar tan hermoso y prístino existe una mina operando a toda máquina; con sus instalaciones y vehículos casi sobre el glaciar.

Nos vamos acercando al final de nuestro viaje.

[EN] The Raura Pass, one of the most scenic places in the Peru Great Divide; the Cordillera Blanca’s outskirts.

But there are mixed feelings. It is hard to understand that in the middle of this beautiful and pristine place there is a mine operating at full gas; with its facilities and vehicles almost on the glacier.

[ES] Dejamos atrás el bosque de piedras y empezamos a bordear la Laguna de Punrún. Esa noche acampamos resguardados por un pequeño techo de la escuela en Chagas Grande.

Al día siguiente, empezamos el ascenso hacia el paso Jatunchacua (4.825 masl). El cielo azul nos acompañó hasta Oyón, donde completamos el segundo tercio de la Peru Great Divide.

Este es sin duda uno de los desvíos más escénicos de esta ruta de bikepacking.

[EN] We left behind the stone forest and skirted around Laguna Punrún. That night, we found shelter under the small roof of a local school at Chagas Grande.

The next day, we climbed Jatunchacua pass at 4,825 masl and the blue sky guided us all the way to Oyón. We had completed the second third of the Peru Great Divide.

This was definitely one of the most scenic detours of this Bikepacking route.

[ES] Perú es muy grande, y la posibilidad de encontrar rutas y caminos de aventura es ilimitada.

En este punto nos desviamos del trazado de la Peru Great Divide debido a la amenaza de tormentas eléctricas que nos cogerían sin protección.

Y así fue como terminamos descubriendo el Santuario Nacional de Huayllay. Este bosque de piedras, creado por el deshielo de los glaciares y la actividad volcánica, está ubicado a 4.310 msnm y es una de las 7 maravillas del Perú.

Esa noche dormimos protegidos en un pequeño refugio al borde de la Laguna Japurín, mientras veíamos como el cielo y la tierra se iluminaba ⚡️.

[EN] Peru is vast, and the possibilities for finding adventure routes and trails are limitless.

At this point, we deviated from the Peru Great Divide due to the threat of thunderstorms that would have caught us unprotected.

And that’s how we ended up discovering the Huayllay National Sanctuary. This stone forest, shaped by glacial melt and volcanic activity, sits at 4,310 masl and is one of Peru’s seven wonders.

That night, we slept in a small refuge by Japurin Lagoon, watching as the sky and earth lit up ⚡️.

[ES] El Abra Sungrar (4.860 msnm) es otro de los puntos de referencia de la Peru Divide. Por fortuna, el ascenso fue largo y de baja pendiente y pudimos trepar en modo diesel. Este lugar es frecuentado por turistas que suben desde Lima a admirar el Nevado Rajuntay y otros picos rocosos de la Cordillera. Este día nos encontramos con un grupo de caminantes que se emocionaron al ver que teníamos una gorra con el escudo del Perú, y nos regalaron banderas, bufandas y chocolates.

Al día siguiente las tormentas eléctricas nos pusieron a correr e ir a con todo en las subidas, pero no pudimos escapar. Por fortuna cuando el cielo se despachó con granizo y agua nieve encontramos refugio en la única casita del camino. Allí estuvimos varias horas, lo suficiente para ganarnos la confianza de los dueños, hasta ser convidados a pasar a la cocina y compartir café con galletas. Al final fue inevitable no llegar empapados a la ciudad de Huayllay.

[EN] The Abra Sungrar (4,860 masl) is another point of reference on the Peru Divide. Fortunately, the ascent was long and gentle, allowing us to climb in diesel mode. This place is popular among tourist, who come up from Lima to admire the Nevado Rajuntay and other rocky peaks of the range. That day, we met a group of hikers who were excited to see that we were wearing a cap with the Peruvian coat of arms. They gave us flags, scarves and chocolates.

The next day, thunderstorms forced us to hurry and push hard on the climbs, but we couldn’t scape. Luckily, when the sky unleashed hale and sleet, we found shelter in the only little house along the road. We stayed there for several hours, long enough to gain the trust of the owners and be invited into the kitchen to share coffee and cookies. In the end, it was inevitable to arrive soaked in the city of Huayllay.

[ES] Desde Laraos, un cálido poblado construido en piedra, empezamos a remontar el hermoso cañón del Río Cañete hacia la sierra.

De nuevo en las alturas nos encontramos con el paisaje soñado, el que alimentaba nuestro imaginario del Perú: las inmensas montañas nevadas, que pareciera podíamos tocar con la mano.

Seguimos rodando la Peru Great Divide.

[EN] From Laraos, a stone-built town, we began to climb the beautiful Cañete River Canyon towards the highlands.

Back at the high altitude, we found ourselves in the dreamlike landscape that had fueled our imagination of Peru: the immense snow-capped mountains that seemed close enough to touch.

We continue riding the Peru Great Divide.
