Founded in 2001, Shanghai Gaelic Football Club is one of Shanghai’s oldest and most vibrant sports clubs with offerings for men, women & juveniles with varying levels of capability - from beginners to those playing at a highly competitive level internationally. Numbers at training have grown year upon year since inception to the strength it is today in all divisions; men's, women's and juvenile le
agues. The club is represented by a diverse community; members are from a variety of sporting backgrounds (rugby, soccer, netball, basketball, hockey, boxing as well as GAA), hailing from many different countries around the world including Ireland, USA, New Zealand, South Africa, England, Scotland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Sweden and China. Shanghai GAA has become increasingly active in their participation at international tournaments; in recent years sending several teams to compete in - the South Asian Games, All China Games, North Asian Games and Asian Gaelic Games. Performance at tournaments has yielded highly commendable results. Notable achievements include: 2014 Asian County Board GAA Club of the Year Award, 2013 Lisa Orsi Cup Winners (Senior Women's Division - Asia Games) and 2014 Runners Up. 2014 Men's Intermediate Cup Winners (Asia Games). Over the past 5 years the club has been actively engaged in GAA development, both in Youth GAA development and also amongst locals in their host country. Efforts included organising annual "Nations Cup" tournaments, offering juvenile league coaching on weekends, integrating GAA into PE curriculums and extra curricular activities in local & international schools, sourcing funding for specialist guest coaches from Ireland to train volunteer coaches and children in the league. As a result of club efforts, in 2014 Shanghai GAA was proud to have a full ‘home grown' men’s Chinese team competing in the All China Games and over 70% of the current juvenile division are Chinese nationals. This year the Juvenile division made monumental progress sending their first ever full squads of "away teams" to Hong Kong (All China Games) and Seoul (North Asia Games). Shanghai GAA are proud hosts of the 2015 Asian Gaelic Games - welcoming teams from across the Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
