Kiyah-Splashh! Kiyah-Splashh! Dragon Boat Team 起呀-飞溅龙舟队

Winning medals since 1993

Paddling Sundays 8.30-11.15am Team Kiyah-Splashh! KI-YAH! never fails to make a splash!

is one of the dragonboat clubs in Singapore with the longest history, tracing its roots to year 1993, when it comprised mostly paddlers from graduates of National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) dragonboat teams. The word Kiyah (pronounced as kee-yah) comes from the Hokkien pronunciation of “起呀”. In the1980s and 1990s, Hokkien was a major dialect widely use

d in Singapore. During the final burst of dragonboat races, paddlers from diverse clubs would shout “KI-YAH! KI-YAH!” at the top of their lungs in sync with every stroke, like a battle cry. Anyone in the thick of the race could not help but feel the pinnacle of thrill and adrenaline rush – this is what makes this sport so addictive. Race spectators would also be electrified by the thunderous roar and palpable atmosphere filling the air, especially for the final 50m to the finishing line. Over the years, Team Kiyah-Splashh! has evolved to welcome all paddlers, new and seasoned, who are interested or passionate about dragonboat to join the team. Today, the team comprises members from all walks of life and of various ages and nationalities. Members share a common interest in dragonboat and train competitively to participate in both local and overseas races (such as in Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, China and Korea). With a long history and a strong tradition, Team Kiyah-Splashh!

On 10 January 2026, our team participated in the Tampines Race. Leading up to the race, everyone was nervous, but we put our best paddle forward and gave it our all. After an intense day of racing, the team managed to clinch 2 golds in the relay categories and a bronze in the open category!! In recognition of the team’s success, a celebratory dinner on Kiyah was organised at Kohnangkam along Arab Street, where the entire team enjoyed a delicious dinner of Thai food. We had dessert generously provided by our teammate Hani too!!

By no means was the competition easy, and neither was the journey perfect. However, the team stayed optimistic, persevered, and put in our maximum effort. Beyond the medals, the true takeaways from the Race are the happy memories, the good friends, and the relationships made during training and competition.

Thank you to all the team members who made all this possible, to our Coach, Haoyuan, for his support, and to Hani for the sweet treats!

Last Saturday, we took part in our first event of the year - Tampines Paddlefest. It was an intense morning with many back to back races. We went home with 2 golds and 1 bronze. Huge thanks to SIM for partnering with us in the DB relay. Looking forward to another year of consistent practices and united spirit as one Kiyah!

Yesterday marked the official launching of our new boat after months of setting up process.

We completed the boat inspection, license application, painting, repair, design and set up boat decal, final paint touch-up, boat cover, boat trolley, storage cage, rudder holder improvement. All of which were fully involved by the comm and our own teammates.

The final last process was to wake up the boat with our sweat. So we had a boat warming celebration yesterday by paddling the boat 20km around the Marina reservoir, follow by a lunch celebration.
