RED BULL STYLE OF JAPAN IS ENERGISING WATERPOLO
The Japanese men’s and women’s team have shown the world how waterpolo should be played, in a style that oozes energy and excitement!
Last night saw the Japanese men attempting to derail the mighty Croatians going down 17-12 in a highly entertaining match.
Goal for goal to halftime, in a game that had the stadium on the edge of their seats enjoying a fast paced, unconventional game of waterpolo.
Just two days ago, Japan women took the Olympic bronze medalists Hungary to 21-26.
47 goals in a game of waterpolo is spectators dream, showcasing a sport that is sellable to the world.
Waterpolo rules have been changed in recent years with the purpose of trying to make waterpolo less one dimensional and encourage a fast flowing game.
The Japanese have embraced this and spun waterpolo on its head!
Without size on their side, the Japanese teams continue to rattle the cages of powerhouse nations with their kamakazi counter attacking/driving style.
Their game is based around a defence that sits on the outside of the attackers shooting arm and forcing mistakes of their opponents.
It’s entertaining to see some of the best names in waterpolo rattled by the unconventional defensive pattern of the Japanese.
For waterpolo to grow, we have to encourage and embrace the Japanese style of the game.
It’s fast, furious and fabulous to watch.
If Japan won or medaled at this world Champs, waterpolo would ignite in Asia…..it seriously would give our game wiiings!
Serbia will be worried, as they match up against Japan in the crossover to make qtr finals!
