Chinook! Landing a chinook on this deceiving river (it is deep and it carries a lot of heavy, fast water) was an exhausting yet fulfilling experience! The strangers who had come to look took the pictures from the distance…

(From previous clip…). This was the fish which made a run for it last year and got away (good job for getting away!). I hooked the fish this year in the same spot. Last year the water level was much lower…this year it was high and quite dangerous to fish from where I was…perched on top of the last boulder that allowed me to use the Spey rod. I can’t wait to go to that spot again next year!

Once the Hardy reel locked in there was little chance for the fish to make the same run it did last year (next clip). The road (11w) and the Hardy (10000) performed beautifully. I took the fish home, as since I was little I was told that the river gives for you to eat…so I did. My mother prepared 4 large meals with it! Thank you river!

These gorgeous flies will be used to inspire kids to learn to tie similar flies and some of them will be put to the test…to see if we can tempt another gorgeous fish to have a go!! Catching a fish like this is such a rush of adrenaline…and the fresh meat is absolutely delicious!

I feel lucky to be able to share clips of fly tying and fly fishing…shared through me with you with the aim to inspire creativity and the love for fly fishing. There is much more than just fly fishing of course…yet for now pls have a look, enjoy the process of creating a fly and give it a go! Fly anglers v/s spinning anglers! After teaching fly tying we took a few days off the visit the heart of Patagonia…where we managed to capture some lovely brown and rainbow trouts. On our way back to northern Patagonia, to run the fly casting lessons, we met a guy from Germany on the ferry who was keen to fish in our area. So he stayed an extra day with us which was great because now we were 2 v/s 2! So if we went early in the morning to see which team and system was better…flies or lures! We the fly anglers were dropped off and the other guys kept on going up river. David and I set up and off we went, one up river and the other down river. Within moments…I hooked a lovely rainbow! It put on a nice little fight but of course the 5/6 switch won! David managed to hook a nice one also, which was great. Billy and Marcel (the German guy) hooked…10! Show off…Billy kept on complaining that “he had to stop fishing because his shoulder and back started to hurt from lifting trouts!! We had a good time! Thanks to my friend Mauricio who took us up river in his boat!!

Fishing was very taught in Patagonia this year…but we made it work. The river levels were unusually low. We are noticing strange climatological changes along the whole of Patagonia which is alarming. Ice fields keep on receding increasingly faster and the temperature of the water is making the fishing difficult to predict. Times of the year when the chinooks use to enter the rivers keep on changing which made this year a guessing game yet we managed to encounter some very nice trouts and yes, we managed to hook a chinook. We didn’t manage to land it but the tension on the line and the splashes of water left by its tail were satisfying enough. Next year will be great!!

A few years back…I went with dad and my friend to “get breakfast” and breakfast we got…18+kgs! Nice memory of fishing with my “viejo”.

Come on now April! Reel matched to Spey rod…casting training has been happening, tickets and insurance ready…looking forward to tasting some@delicious Patagonian lamb…we “are there already”… come on now 29th March!! Todo listo para…pescar!
