Zermatt is an extraordinary ski area, but getting the best from it takes more than following the piste map.

Snow conditions change. Wind affects the highest lifts. The sun moves around the mountain. Queues build in different places, and skiing to Italy requires the right weather, timing and route choices.

Then there’s your group.

Where will everyone feel confident? Which terrain will help you progress? When should you move to another area and where should you stop for lunch?

Local knowledge isn’t simply knowing a few secret pistes. It’s understanding how to put all those decisions together to create a better ski day.

That’s what Summit brings to every lesson and guided experience.

ki better. Explore more. Enjoy Zermatt.

One of the questions parents ask us most often is: Should my child join a group or should I book private lessons?

The honest answer is that neither is automatically better. It depends on the child.

A group lesson can be brilliant for children who enjoy learning alongside others, feel motivated by the social side and benefit from making steady progress over several days.

A private lesson offers complete individual attention and a flexible pace. It can be particularly helpful when a child needs extra reassurance, has a specific goal, has limited time or wants to ski with siblings or other family members.

Personality matters just as much as skiing level. Some confident, sociable children thrive in a group. Others progress faster with a quieter, more personal approach and sometimes the opposite is true!

The best choice is the one that helps your child feel comfortable, build confidence and genuinely enjoy being on snow.

Still unsure? Tell us your child’s age, previous experience, personality and available dates. We’ll help you choose the option that suits them best.

Skiing in Zermatt for the first time?

The scale of the mountain is part of what makes it exceptional, but it also catches people out.

Zermatt isn’t one central ski bowl. Its three interconnected mountains, but crossing between them takes time. Your starting lift matters, piste colours don’t tell the entire story and skiing to Italy is a great day out and worth making the most of.

The best plan can also change overnight. Wind, snow, visibility and lift openings may make a completely different area the right choice in the morning.

Our advice for Day 1: don’t try to conquer the entire piste map.

Choose one area, understand how it connects, leave time for lunch and finish while everyone is still enjoying themselves.

Save this before your first ski day in Zermatt.

New to Summit and not quite sure what to book?

The right option depends less on how “good” you think you are and more on what you want from your time in Zermatt.

Choose a private lesson for personal instruction, flexibility and an experience shaped around you or your family.

Choose a group lesson for small-group learning, a sociable atmosphere and steady progress alongside people of a similar level.

Choose a guided day if you already ski confidently and want help discovering the resort, finding the best routes or skiing across to Italy.

Choose an off-piste day if you’re ready to explore beyond the marked pistes while developing your technique and mountain awareness.

And if you still aren’t sure, just ask us. Tell us:
🎿 Who will be skiing or snowboarding
📈 Your approximate experience level
📅 Your available dates
🏔️ What you would love to achieve

We’ll point you towards the option that genuinely suits you.
