Kostenlose Schnupperlektion, Link in Bio.

New to Zürich? Looking for connection?

So many of our dancers, especially those who've moved here from elsewhere, describe ZeoT as like finding a second home. They come for the dance, and they find belonging: laughter, friendship, and a community that crosses backgrounds, languages, and cultures.

We speak English and German. We welcome complete beginners. And we'd love to welcome you.

Come and find your people. Free trial class, link in bio.

Our MUSE blog is now online!

The idea behind the show: for centuries, women have been the muse, painted, sculpted, sung about. But women were never only the inspiration; they were the artists too. MUSE brings both to the stage, and our dancers become each in turn.

You might know it as belly dance. Its real name is Raqs Sharqi, "dance of the East", and its story is richer than most people imagine.

Its roots reach back centuries, but the elegant, expressive form we know today was shaped surprisingly recently, in the music halls and cinema of 1920s Cairo. It was there that dancers began performing on grand stages, using the whole space, expansive arms, flowing veils, and choreography entered the dance.

Then came the golden age of Egyptian cinema, and dancers like Samia Gamal and Tahia Carioca became national icons, celebrated for their artistry and musicality. They shaped a style dancers all over the world still study today.

What makes Raqs Sharqi so captivating is its bond with the music. The dancer becomes the melody made visible, interpreting rhythm and feeling through fluid hips, graceful arms, and subtle isolations. It's a dance of expression, not of steps.

Raqs Sharqi is the theme of our new course period starting this week on the 24th of August. If it speaks to you, come and explore it with us.

HOW TO REMEMBER A CHOREOGRAPHY

Picking up choreography quickly isn't a talent you're born with. It's a skill you can train. Here's one tip to try:

Watch your teacher first to understand their movement, ex*****on, and timing. Then take the training wheels off: look away and dance it on your own, earlier than feels comfortable. Learn with your eyes, practise with your body. The sooner you stop mirroring, the faster it sticks.

This is exactly the kind of skill we build at ZeoT, and this course period is a beautiful place to practise it.

KP5 starts 24 August, and we're diving into Raqs Sharqi, classical bellydance: the elegant, expressive heart of the dance, with flowing arms, deep musicality, and a rich cultural tradition. Whether you're building on the basics or refining your technique, come and grow with us.
