The 2026/27 water polo season kicks off with the Swiss Trophy!

The new Swiss water polo season officially gets underway this Friday with the first Swiss Trophy match, marking the start of the competition’s second edition.

Following its debut last season, the Swiss Trophy returns with a clear purpose: to promote national talent while creating an efficient and sustainable competition format.

🇨🇭 Swiss players in focus

Only athletes holding a Swiss Nationality, Swiss Sport-Experience or Swiss Sport-Nationality licence are eligible to compete.

The aim is to give Swiss and Swiss-trained players more opportunities to compete, while allowing young talents to gain valuable experience, take on responsibility and continue their development at national level.

🔟 Ten teams. Two groups.

Group A:
Carouge Natation
Genève Natation 1885
Lausanne Aquatique
Riviera Barracudas
SK Bern

Group B:
Basel Aquatics
Lugano Sharks
SC Horgen
SC Kreuzlingen
SC St.Gallen

Each team plays the other four teams in its group once. The top two teams from each group advance to the Final Four, where the group winners face the runners-up from the opposite group.

The semi-final winners will then meet in the Swiss Trophy Final on 23 January 2027. 🏆

The second edition puts the next generation of Swiss water polo firmly in the spotlight.

🇨🇭 U20 MEN | EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP 🇵🇹

Seven games. Seven intense days. Two wins. Countless lessons. And a 10th-place finish in Europe. 🤽‍♂️🇨🇭

The Swiss U20 Men have completed their European Championship Division I campaign in Oeiras, Portugal, after a demanding week of international water polo.

Following their preparation camp with the Portuguese U20 national team in Abrantes, Switzerland faced a challenging group stage with Great Britain, Ukraine, Belgium, Israel and NAA.

The team experienced everything this week: close battles, tough moments, a thrilling 14–13 victory over Ukraine, and matches in which every detail made the difference.

One of the highlights came in the classification round against Lithuania. After trailing 2–5 after the opening quarter, the Swiss refused to give up. Fighting their way back into the game quarter by quarter, they produced a brilliant final period to turn the match around and claim a 17–15 victory. 💪🔥

That win earned Switzerland a place in the match for 9th, where they met Great Britain once again. Just like their opening encounter, it was a close battle until the end. Switzerland eventually fell 9–11, finishing the championship in 10th place.

🇨🇭 A FIGHT TO THE END | SWITZERLAND 9–11 GREAT BRITAIN 🇬🇧

The Swiss U20 Men closed their European Championship campaign today in Oeiras with a hard-fought 9–11 defeat against Great Britain in the Classification 9–10 match.

It was a close contest from start to finish. The opening period ended level at 2–2, before Great Britain gained the narrowest of advantages in the second quarter, winning it 5–4.

Switzerland stayed within touching distance throughout. Great Britain edged the third period 2–1, while the final quarter finished 2–2. In the end, just two goals separated the teams.

What a comeback. What a fight. What a win! 🔥🤽‍♂️

The Swiss U20 Men claimed an important 17–15 victory over Lithuania today in the Classification 9–12 round of the 2026 Men’s U20 European Water Polo Championship Division 1 in Oeiras.

The match did not start in Switzerland’s favour. Lithuania came out strong and took the opening period 5–2. But the Swiss team refused to let the game slip away.

Switzerland began its comeback in the second quarter, winning it 4–3, before continuing to apply pressure after halftime with a 5–4 third period.

And then came the decisive final quarter. 🔥

With everything still to play for, Switzerland produced its strongest period of the match, outscoring Lithuania 6–3 to complete the turnaround and secure a thrilling 17–15 victory. 💪🇨🇭

The Swiss U20 Men closed their preliminary-round campaign today at the 2026 Men’s U20 European Water Polo Championship in Oeiras with an 11–18 defeat against NAA.

Switzerland managed to find the net eleven times, but NAA proved too strong over the course of the match and eventually secured a seven-goal victory.

Once again, captain Florian Flückiger led the Swiss attack, scoring an impressive five goals, including one penalty. Yannick Rutz and Patrick Würth contributed two goals each, while Cédric Lüthi and Matteo Ribatti added one apiece.

🇨🇭 TOUGH DAY IN OEIRAS | ISRAEL 16–8 SWITZERLAND 🇮🇱

A difficult match for the Swiss U20 Men today at the 2026 Men’s U20 European Water Polo Championship in Oeiras, as Israel claimed a 16–8 victory.

Israel made the stronger start and took control of the opening period 5–1. Switzerland responded with determination in the second quarter, producing its best period of the match and matching Israel goal for goal at 5–5.

After halftime, however, Israel regained control. The third and fourth periods both ended 3–1, allowing the Israeli side to extend its advantage and secure the win.
