Blue sky. Fresh powder. Level 4 avalanche danger ‼️
This is when people make their worst decisions.
🚨
What you see here happens all the time — multiple skiers exposed, skiing above each other, racing for fresh tracks, even after an avalanche has already run.
🚨
On a 4 / 5 (or 4+) day, the focus should be terrain selection — not powder.
🚨
Key reminders:

• Most avalanches happen on slopes between 30–45°
• Ski one at a time in avalanche terrain
• Wait in safe islands, not underneath the slope
• Tracks don’t mean it’s safe - just because it been skied
• Blue sky doesn’t mean stable
• Your group is your rescue — not ski patrol
• Gear only matters if you know how to use it
🚨
Right now around the Verbier area we have a persistent weak layer, which means remote triggering and unexpected avalanches are possible.
🚨
You should also be aware of:
• Terrain traps (gullies, cliffs, trees, flats that increase burial risk)
• Snowpack and persistent weak layers
• Wind direction and wind loading
• Slope aspect and elevation
• Recent avalanche activity
• Snowfall amounts and snow history
🚨
If you’re unsure — step back. Choose lower-angle terrain or have fun on piste.
Powder will come again.
🚨
There are excellent tools and education resources available:

👉 White Risk (Swiss avalanche education & planning)
👉 SLF (WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research) avalanche bulletin
👉 Avalanche courses (AST / AIARE / local guides)
👉 Local daily bulletins wherever you ski
🚨
Please share this — awareness prevents accidents.
🚨
It’s just not worth the risk.

🎥 Big thanks to for the second avalanche video and to for the 3rd 🙏🙏🙏

If you were watching BBC's Look North this evening, you will have seen a very familiar face! 😯

Tom was on the sofa to talk about his incredible journey; why he did it, what it was like, and what it meant to him. 🗣

After watching Tom for all those weeks at sea, displaying increasing levels of exhaustion, it's wonderful to get this glimpse of him back on land and looking sharp! 🤵‍♂

One of the most exciting things about the interview is right at the end, when Tom announces how he's got on with fundraising. Not only has he raised a massive £70,000 from his justgiving page...one of his major sponsors, Tritax Symmetry raised a further £30,000 on his behalf. So an incredible £100,000 was raised in total! 😍

So whilst Tom may not want to do it again, he can be completely happy with how successful this campaign has been. 🙌

A huge thank you to all of Tom's sponsors who have helped make this amazing challenge possible:

Today, hand back the social media reigns to Tom himself. 🤝

Importantly, Tom is very much still in recovery mode. Returning to land from something like this can be incredibly hard, and it's important he manages that carefully. As part of this he is not going to be back on social media for a week or so, so please be patient as he recuperates, and carefully returns to normality. 🙏

It's been an absolute pleasure and joy to do our bit to tell Tom's phenomenal story, as he made his way across the North Atlantic Ocean this summer. 🌊🚣‍♂️

And a huge thank you, to you, the now circa 40,000 followers across all platforms, that have contributed by following, by liking, by donating, by creating a buzz. 🐝

At Shark Bait Socials we tell the stories of the most extreme adventurers on planet Earth; ocean adventures, jungle adventures, polar adventures, desert adventures...if when you tell someone about your adventure their jaws hit the floor...it's probably something we can help with on a story telling perspective. ✍️🤙

Thanks to everyone that contributed, in any way...and a massive, MASSIVE congratulations once again to the ocean rowing legend that is Tom Waddington. 🙌

And....relax! ☺️

Tom continues his down time as he recovers from one of the most incredible adventures that it is possible to have. 🌊🚣‍♂️

After all of the memories he created out on the ocean, he is now creating more memories surrounded by family and friends, back in the UK. And these ones are exclusively happy memories! 🥰

Later today we'll talk about handing back the social media reigns to Tom, but for the moment let's have a look at how much money he has raised to date. (Drum roll please). 🥁

A MASSIVE £67,132!!! 🥳🥳🥳

A reminder that none of this money goes on anything to do with the expedition itself, this all goes to Mind (excluding the Just Giving platform fees). This charity make a real, genuine, and ENORMOUS difference to the lives of the people that it touches. Mental health can affect anyone, anywhere, and it can be unexpected - but these guys are always on hand when you need their help. 💖

Tom was drawn to the sea. Rowing across the Atlantic is something that compelled him. And now, having successfully made a solo crossing, unsupported, in a rowing boat - it will be something that is indelibly part of him. 🌊

Whilst he no doubt treasures every second he spends on land with his loved ones - sitting on the rocks and looking out at the ocean will bring him a lot of happiness. ☺️

Spending so much time on the water, meant that he moved with the ocean, and slowly almost became part of the ocean. The waves would wobble the boat, and he would naturally counter the movement of the ocean, without thinking about it. Whilst rowing an ocean isn't exactly comfortable, there were times when he may have felt at home out there. 🏡

However, there was always a part of home that was missing...whilst he was 'unsupported' in that he didn't have a boat bobbing alongside of him, he received ENORMOUS support from his fiancé Stephanie. 🥰

She supported Tom throughout the lead up the row, and was on the sat phone to support him during the row. And now, as he sits and watches the ocean, he can do that along side her, and be genuinely happy. 💖

I mean...it's an incredibly dramatic journey just to get a Cornish Pasty....but WOW it tastes good! 😋

And you can't come to Cornwall without having one of these! Tom and his family headed down to The Peppercorn Cafe in Perranuthnoe, Cornwall to relax and enjoy the local cuisine. 🍽️

Returning to normality is incredibly challenging for most ocean rowers, and so taking time to enjoy his moments down here, to decompress, it's important stuff to do. 👌

And after 5-6000 calories of dehydrated meals eaten every single day for weeks and weeks, comfort food such as this will have been such a huge craving for Tom. 🤩
