🔴 Why is the polo ball red? ❄️🏇
If you’ve ever watched the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz, you may have noticed that the ball isn’t white like in traditional polo — it’s bright red.
The reason is simple: visibility.
Against the snow-covered surface of the frozen lake, a white ball would be almost impossible for players, umpires, and spectators to follow. The distinctive red color creates a strong contrast against the snow, making the game easier to play and far more enjoyable to watch.
It’s one of the many adaptations that make snow polo unique. While the sport follows the same spirit as traditional polo, the conditions on ice and snow require a few special adjustments — and the iconic red ball is perhaps the most recognizable of them all.
A small detail that makes a big difference. 🔴❄️
