The iconic Paramount Pictures mountain right there..🤤

From the summit of Pisco (5,752m) in Peru, I’m looking straight at Artesonraju, the peak widely believed to have inspired the Paramount Pictures logo 📽️🗻

But the view doesn’t stop there! 🤩

To the north stands the elegant pyramid of Alpamayo, one of the most beautiful mountains in the world.

Nearby rise Quitaraju, while the giant walls of Chacraraju dominate the sky.

Across the Cordillera Blanca: Huandoy, Huascarán and countless other glaciated peaks stretch to the horizon.

It felt like standing in the middle of a sea of mountains you can almost touch.. one of the FINEST summit views I’ve ever experienced 🫠

The UK road trip is a wrap 🇬🇧

England → Scotland → England → Wales → England.

I somehow managed to squeeze in some XC MTB racing, time in the Cairngorms, the Keswick Mountain Festival (with a few hikes, obviously), spent my birthday in a hot tub in Wales and visited my sister and her family by the beach.

In between? A lot of driving and sleeping in my car. As always, time flew by and I didn’t get to catch up with everyone I wanted..🥹

Next stop?

Not everyone understands why I spend so much time in the polar regions and high mountains.

It’s never just the adventure. Some places change the way you see…. 🫠

Over the past weeks, I’ve shared moments from life on skis on Svalbard:
🧊endless ice
⛺️camp life
🗻 summits
and the simple rhythm of travelling through one of the wildest corners of the planet.

If any of those posts made you stop for a moment and think “I wonder if I could do something like that…” perhaps this is your sign to explore that thought.

Polar travel isn’t reserved for elite explorers. But it asks for resilience and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. And often, that first step turns into something far bigger than expected.

These are the three (each unique in their own ways) Svalbard ski expeditions for 2027 that I’ll be guiding.

For those dreaming even bigger:
Greenland crossing in 2028 or skiing to the South Pole, these Svalbard expeditions are also the perfect foundation. The skills, systems and mindset you build here are exactly where bigger polar journeys begin.

In the meantime, revisit some of my recent Svalbard posts for a glimpse into what life on an expedition like this actually feels like.

Perhaps next time, instead of following the story, you’ll be living it with me…⛷️🐻‍❄️🗻❄️

Everything you need is in your pulk. Tent, sleeping system, cooking equipment, food, clothes, minimal toiletries and electronics.
Your whole world is packed into one bag.

Life is pretty simple and freeing out there.

Move, build camp, melt snow, eat, stay awake during polar bear duty, sleep and repeat. 🐻‍❄️

It’s probably not for everyone… but I do think more people would enjoy this kind of adventure than they realise… 😎

“Only the trapper knows what he feels when the ship weighs anchor and he sees the last concrete link to the outside world slip into the mist and disappear. He stands mute as an image staring across the sea.
We are alone and no longer hear the din of the engine.”

📍 Svalbard

The anticipation in those final minutes is hard to describe. Adjusting harnesses. Clicking boots into bindings. One last look back at the ship before it disappears into the frozen horizon. Beneath the ice, dark Arctic water. Ahead of us, glacier, sunset and the rhythm of forward movement.🥰

Then come the first ski strides. Cold air in the lungs, senses sharpened by the reality that the expedition has truly begun. 😎

Just us moving across the ice toward land under our own power….🧊

This transition is always one of the most powerful moments of any polar journey. It’s where preparation ends and expedition life begins. 🫯

3 📸 Getting our gear onto the ice
4 📸 Pulks attached to our harnesses, ready to roll!
5 📸 The first icy strides
6 🎥 Skiing towards land, a giant glacier and the most beautiful sunset

What goes up ⛷️..(earns the view first).. must come down 🛷😅

Svalbard expedition reality: hard work but also so much fun, especially when gravity takes over 🚀🤪

One of the things I love most about travelling by ski in the Arctic: the simplicity.

A few people have been asking, and yes.. I’ll be guiding back on Svalbard next year! 🗻🐻‍❄️
