Ngauruhoe, at dawn in one of his many moods. This is from Tukino Lodge in 2022. I heading back here on tomorrow to work for the NZ alpine club. I taught my first alpine skills week here back in 1999.

Flashback to June climbing in Switzerland. We love the alpine sportclimbing. Here I'm Topping out on Mittagfluh, Grimsel Pass. To the right is the classic Sud Kante (south ridge). A great intro into real exposure at a moderate grade.

Skinning uphill, is part of the fun when ski touring. Some Kiwi clients best described it as tramping on skis . Sure we all want great snow on the way down but there's something special about the slide and rhythm of skinning uphill when you master it.
With more snow in the forecast and high pressure coming next week things are lining up well for some glacier ski touring or ski mountaineering.

Great spring ski touring conditions here in Switzerland. This was on Tuesday this week. Unusually cold temps keep the snow good despite the wind. Heading down the Steilimi glacier with cloud pouring over Susten pass.

Swiss ski touring, stoked to get back to Switzerland after too long away. It's been stormy here with an active avalanche cycle. We've been out and about getting some fun skiing but you definitely have to be carefully where you go.

Here Monika is enjoy some turns in the Kiental / Kien Valley, near Blüemlisalp / Valley of flowers

Great conditions on Tititea/Mt Aspiring at the moment. Here Andrea & Josh head up the summit ridge on our team ascent last week. Great when it works as had three friends on the summit together. Good to work in with Aspiring Guides and with Cam & Andrea.

Alpine skills course means an dawn alpine start. Here at Tasman saddle hut with Aoraki in the distance. This hut has been the base of adventures since 1966, generations of skiers and climbers have sharpened their skills here.
This photo is from last year with Sam & Andrew however I'm about to return here for my 4th trip this spring.

Ski touring is my favourite winter activity, something about earning your turns make the skiing that much sweeter. This was back in July when Ka Tiritiri-o-te-Moana / the Southern Alps of Aoteroa was showing off it´s winter coat.
Here Richard pauses to absorb the moment heading back to Wharekea Chalet.
